So I realize everyone will say to add aftermarket but I’m mostly lazy and not interested in a ton of bass, just some filler.

Anyway, I have the stock 6 speaker system in my Express. I see the stock little subs going on eBay for like $130. Are they amplified or is that just the sub and box? I’ll include a pic for reference.

Also, I see they just have a wiring plug coming out of them. Would I need to purchase a separate harness to hook it up?

Thanks for the info!

I have done this. I bought the OEM one on Ebay for $117 shipped.

Since you have the 6-speaker setup, you will need an amp to power it.

I wonder if it would be worth it to reinforce that factory box with fiberglass and add a 8" type-R

Edit: I know the sub will fit it has the same dimensions as the stock 8" After looking around I think line-x spray may be the best option to beef up the factory box strength without too much mess or modification. Fiberglass would work but I would have to drill some seep holes for the resin to flow through.

At that point I would just buy an aftermarket box.

But just wanting a "filler" sounds, the OEM is just fine.

My only thing is I would like to maintain the fold flat. I don't believe that's possible with a foxbox. It's no deal breaker either way. I'm fine with the current sub setup for now. But if I could reinforce the box and beef up the bass while keeping everything else in tact, it could be cool.

Thats another reason I went with the OEM box, i did not lose the fold flat.

I filled mine up with poly fill and upgraded the the Pioneer shallow mount, and am pushing it with a Rockford 250 watt mono Used the LC2i to get RCA's for the amp input

Well that’s disappointing for me. I was hoping those stock ones had a built in amp. I don’t really want to go to the hassle of adding an amp and all that Jazz. Ah well

How is the sound

Incredible , Takes the factory system to the next level

But do mistake it is not like having dual 10's.

it IMO adds just the right amount of low end that the factory system is not over whelmed by it

Thing I go everything amp, sub and power wire kit for like $ 225.00 out of pocket and did the install myself in 2 1/2 hours

you should try the OEM kicker upgrade to your normal speakers, if you are just wanting a much better bass response with good quality sound then this might put you where you want to be, i did this for my neighbor and he was beyond pleased, but that also gave him the itch to have big bass like i do so he had me install 2 10s in his truck and he is even more tickled now lol

I was gonna consider it! What issues did you have with it?

How did you install it? I have done a ton and customers always love them. However I found that if you use a low-level input, it does not get as loud or sound as good (even when set up correctly).
