afermarket stereo ground ? update with pic

I just recently bought a 98 ram 1500 and have a aftermarket stereo I want to install.so I bought a harness and wired it all up but qhen I installed it I thought i seen smoke coming from the stereo area.there was a factory wire that bolted to the back of the stereo and was wanting to know is that the wire that I put the fround wire to or do I not usethat wire?im confussed and hook2e it up to the ground on the harness but was told to un hook it and use the the wire that bolted to the back of the factory stereo.and anyone help me with this because I dont want to catch my wireing on fire or anything like that.thanks in advance for info you guys can help me with.

Ill get a pic after work and it goes back into the dash.its a single wire by its self and bolts in the center of the radio

If it's not insulated it is probably a anti theft wire just attached to make it harder to steal. I put one on an aftermarket radio before.
What color is it?

Did you use a wiring adapter specific to you're truck? Or did you cut the stock one off and hard wire it? If hard wired make sure each wire is done right as there not color coded same as after market stereos.

I got a pic of the wire and its black and blue that bolts to the back of the radio by a bolt.is this the wire I hook to the ground wire from the aftermarket ground wire?

Not sure but it goes somewhere behind the dash.so do I use that as my ground and run the wire from my aftermarket deck ground wire to it?I just dont want to burn up my wireing in the dash

On my 19 96 dodge the wire that bolts to my stereo runs from the back of the radio. Through the wire harness and up on to the driver side fender above the headlight. In the hood jam bythe washer fluid resivor. Its a ground. And I unbolted mine off the fender and my radio didn't work. I hooked it back up then it worked. And the colors matched so its the radio ground. And you can look it up on Google as well and it'll say its a ground. It leads there because the battery has s negative wire that grounds off on the same bolt for the memory.

Ok so instead of hooking the ground up to the harness I hook it up to the that single wire? Or can I just screw it into the back of the aftermarket stereo? Sorry if this is alot its just I have my kinds in the truck everyday and getting my son in there is really a hassle and also getting him out is to.just dont want a fire.thanks for all the responses and helping me out.im not new to this but ive never seen this nd its been a long time sense I hook up a stereo.

I just spliced mine onto the negative (black) wire on the new radio harness. Id be afraid to screw it to back of radio.

So you didnt use that black and blue wire then?

Mine was green and black and yes I just spliced mine to the black ground wire on the new wire harness

The smoke was actually steam from the heater core leaking so im waiting to get that fixed before I put the tv screen radio in the dash

Can someone post a pic of the back of there aftermarket stereo and the groud wire.im still confused because my cosin said to hook it up to the harness but I was also told to that the ground wire is the wire that bolted to the back of the factory stereo and to sue that wire.so if anyone could post a pic if its not to my of a bother. Thanks
