Aftermarket Head Unit and OEM Rear Tailgate Camera

Hi, all. I have a 2016 1500 with the tailgate camera. I replaced the original 5” UConnect with an Alpine iLW-650. I bought the backup camera reroute kit from Infotainment. If you’re not familiar, it simply reroutes the camera video from the rear-view mirror to the head unit.

Unfortunately, after configuring the camera in the Alpine, I still only get video on the mirror. The Alpine switches to camera view when I shift into reverse but no video, only the grids.

Has anyone done something like this? Any help is appreciated.

your rear camera routes to the mirror? didnt know they did that on this year ram. i would send a message to crutchfield they helped me so much

When I got my 2015 (in 2017), any Ram with the lowest end radio that had backup camera had the screen in the cabin rear view mirror.

Backup camera wasn't a government requirement until 2018.

When your Ram came with a 5.0" radio, your OEM tailgate camera could have the image displayed on the rear view mirror or the head unit

If you dont mind me asking a question off topic from OP, those with the camera in the mirror where is your microphone for bluetooth? I believe mine is on my mirror but those with rear view camera dont seem to have one. Appreciate the help.
