I hate to post this on the RAM truck board but I cannot get a straight answer from any of clowns on the Chrysler car boards.

Here is the deal.

Purchased a sweet '14 Chrysler 300 for the wife last week. Car is low miles and like new. Was traded in at the dealership it was purchased from. All the maintenance was done at the dealership.
Typical little old lady story. Car was her husbands, he loved the car but he died. Car was too big for the little old lady so she traded it in. Car is equipped pretty nicely but one thing I didn't even think about was a backup camera. Has the full 8.4" MyGiG system, but no backup camera. The car has little dinky mirrors and really a backup camera would be a big plus.
You can get the OEM camera for about $90 bux. Is it as simple as using AlfaOBD to "turn on" the rear camera option after it is installed?

You’ll need the kit, not just the camera. The car won’t have any of the wiring for the camera. I believe the camera is also part of the 3rd brake light, so that has to be replaced as well.

Yeah, I priced the kit. It is over $400. The difference comes down to one the brake light lens has a hole for the camera. I can drill the hole easy enough and just have to buy the camera. As far as the wiring harness I've read some cars are pre-wired for a camera. I'm going to pull down the covering material and check that this afternoon.
Still nothing cheap about going this direction. The license for AlfaOBD is about $60 bux. The BT OBDII puck $100 (recommend one). So that is $250 into this just trying to get the OEM setup to work.

I might be able to install the camera and take to the dealership and have them handle the software part. No idea what the charge would be though.

Dealer would likely charge anywhere from half to an hour labour for programming.

It’s possible the wiring is there, I’ve never done one on a 300. I’ve mainly done them on trucks, and wiring is never there if it didn’t come from the factory that way.
