I purchased a set of used aftermarket rims a few months ago and had my drivers side rim almost fall off last Friday.
The passenger side rim was loose about a month ago too.
Since purchasing the rims I've put the power stop break kit on in addition.
What we found out last night at discount is that the wheel lugs are interfering with the complety flat rear rim surface.
There's a little bulge on the lug against the rotor that you can see in the picture.
Has anyone else had this issue?
The kid at Discount suggested drilling out the rim some, or just retorquing often and over time the wheel will mold to the lugs.
I'm pretty terrified of loosing a rim at this point. :(

No mechanic, but sure looks like the "lug bolts" are stripping right next to the hub/rotor. Torqued on wrong? Wrong torque? Wrong size? Not seating? Lots of things. I would definitely replace all those studs. I would also get away from the "kid" at Discount and get a professional to look at the setup, because something just is not right...

It looks like the hat on the rotor is too thin. Besides replacing the lugs, you might need to get a thin spacer so the rim lug hole does not bottom out on the shank of the lug.

I shudder to think that other people are sharing the road with vehicles he's installed wheels and tires on. Glad I'm in Alaska, though in reality we ALL probably have that kid in the neighborhood.

You'll also see this when aftermarket wheels are installed, which have no relief cut in them for the factory rotor retention clips, and nobody bothers to remove the clips. Usually the vibration at speed is a dead giveaway.

I had the issue with the retention clips being left on before i changed the rotors.
I contacted JEGS (where i bought the brake kit from) about the hat as I think thats the issue since the rears don't have this problem. They're going to get a hold of Power Stop.
Thanks for the advise fellas.
The kid wasn't the only one there when it was stated, the Manager and assistant manager were there too!

I am guessing that those wheels are not really the right ones for the truck. You should check the specifications carefully.

As long as there is no interference, calipers should not matter. If the rotors were changed, they would be suspect to me as well. If too much of the stud is exposed, you will have trouble, the lug nuts could bottom our before the wheel is tight.

You should never have to re-torque if they are put on properly the first time.

Is there a gap between the bottom of the stud where it's in the rotor and the knurled stud.
Could be the pic, but it almost looks like the studs look to small for the rotor hole.
Would be interested in how hard the studs push out.

Because wheel studs are a safety item, on the back of the stud, there should be a manufacturing ID.

I have had bad results with Power Stop brakes on my Chevrolet van. I would not buy them again.

I agree with the others that the mounting surface on the rotor is too thin.

To add to what everyone else is saying about the brakes;

Are your “new to you” rims hub-centric like the factory wheels?

Did the rims come with lug nuts, or are you reusing your factory ones?

If reusing the factory nuts, did you confirm
That they are the correct style for the new rims?

The new rims are Hub Centric except not the same size as the truck hub.
I've come to learn yesterday, that I need to buy Hub Centric rings to fill the gap.
I wasn't able to use the lug nuts that came with the rims as they came off of a 2017 Ram which have a different pitch then my 2010.
The factory lug nuts i had also didn't fit as they were too wide.
I had to purchase new ones.
See the pics of the front and rear hats.
Night and day difference how the studs fit.
I think its the rotor more then anything.
We'll see what JEGS tells tomorrow.

I’ve got Power Stops on my truck and did a lot of research on here before I bought them and have been pleased with them.

Just make sure the profile of the lugs match the seat in the rim. If they don’t match, there won’t be enough contact between the rim and nut to keep them from working loose.

Definitely get the hub rings. Without them, the rim can move slightly on the hub and stress the lug bolts.
