I've never gotten any shake, but I just hate the sound of stones exiting the tire tread and hitting the underbody.

YEAH, if I can hear the rocks pinging over the radio, that makes you wince real bad. I do have weather tech flaps on my 19. Not overly wide, but doo so much help.
I end up picking Garbage outta tires when driving crushed rock county roads or say going out in field to get hay and such. I do have 3/4" white rock in part of driveway, but been run over so much, not much of an issue.

I LIKE the mud flaps and since I live on a ranch with a dirt/gravel road I insist on having them on ALL my vehicles.
As for rocks causing a balance problem… I installed Centramatics wheel balancers as soon as I got the new truck home. What Problem?
