Someone rear ended my truck the other night and decided to run off. Parked out in front of my house on the street, and my dashcam showed a Subaru looking SUV bouncing off my truck and driving off. HOW they managed to drive off, Ive no idea but they hit my truck so hard it broke my rear axle right at the diff. Damage estimate so far is over 10k, and Im not even sure if my insurance will total it or not, but since its looking like its going to be fixed, Im like to upgrade some of the broken stuff. Any suggestions? Definitely would like to get a more beefier axle for starters, and I have an aftermarket bumper picked out. What would ppl suggest?
Could also use a little assistance in identifying the vehicle...idiot caused a Class F felony driving off, and I want some butts.

Sorry to hear this happened? What year? I work for a large insurance company and most will cover full oem parts depending on year and mileage. Only a few states have clauses where you can decline after market or used parts and the insurance company has to pay for oem but unsure where you are.

the repairs being done at my dealership. They dropped hints that they're going to use USED parts rather than new stuff because thats a thing. God forbid we keep things up and running with new parts and I barely have 27k miles on my truck. Im not having that.

the guy hit my truck while it was just sitting in front of my house, and this is like the 4th time Ive been hit in my truck...and the 3rd time hit while I wasnt even nearby.

My boss I had back in 78 his son bought a brand new car.. he lived on a quiet street here in Louisiana.. he got one morning go to work his car wasn't in front of his house anymore it was Literally 4 blocks from his house. It was hit that hard and pushed that far... I don't remember if they ever found the vehicle and driver...

I had a kid in an Accura hit my 2001 1500. Tore the tie rod off the frame and bent the frame. Insurance company totaled the truck - man I miss that truck! He was able to drive off as well. One of life's mysteries I guess.

Update: cost is now up to 13k. Left rear quarter panel is removed and being replaced by new panels, along with all the other collision damage. Everything under the fender in its entirety being replaced with brand new parts. New rear axle rather than off a junk one which makes me happy. Still haven't turned the motor over or tested the granny so I can expect tthe cost to to keep going up. They removed the entire bed from the frame. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm getting some pics of it tomorrow. Still haven't found the guy, so yeah.

I know it's long passed from the time of the "assault" of your truck, but for future reference, I will highly suggest that when something like this happens, go to the vehicle appraisal sites (KBB, NADA, Edmunds) and 'build' your vehicle. I had a kid hit my Dakota R/T way back when. I built my truck the next day on line and printed the appraisal. Got me an extra 4K from the ins. co. They wanted me to take the value of a Dalota Sport. FYI

You cant do that on any of these sites anymore unfortunately. You get what you select packages and if that packages comes with like..cloth seats and you have leather now, you still have cloth seats.

I sent copies of Truck Trader used truck ads, with similar features, to my insurance company and nearly tripled the payout amount from State Farm.

Although this was in the '90s and it may not apply in today's world. Plus, their first offer was a low-ball offer.

The point was that the insurance company compensated me for the actual cost of buying a like replacement vehicle. I recall the broker asking me to list all the additional items it had, like the tonneau cover.

Utley, So sorry that happened to you. I have a question for about cameras, is there a quility system for both front and rear facing cameras for while driving and parked. Parked my new 'to me' truck in the cheap seats, in a single space not several, got back and to a note "A$@@@le"

I'm upgrading to this when I get my truck back. Everything's back to normal but the bumper still hasn't arrived yet. Here's where it's at now.

Hopefully the insurance company will get it done and dealership fixes it right. Even if they can locate the owner of that vehicle, suing is difficult. I was in a rear end hit and run late last year. Got a picture of the vehicle, no license plate. He asked for a description of the driver, I didn't get a view of that person so no. The officer told me, even if we locate the vehicle that hit you, it doesn't mean the owner was driving it, making someone personally liable for hitting it would be near impossible in a court if I didn't have a description to provide at the time of filing the report. I got lucky, they only destroyed my rear bumper and a tail pipe. It just happen I had a new bumper on hand already scheduled for paint the next week and my new tips were in the garage waiting for the new bumper. sounds like you faired out on this to at least get your truck back as it was.
