That picks the stones out of the tire treads?
Was on a 4 month trek out west pulling our TT and went on lots of gravel roads and campgrounds. One day while not towing I notice a little wheel shake at 65 mph that wasn't there previously. Noticing how many stones were stuck in the treads, I picked out a bunch of them and the shake disappeared.
Not surprising to me because when I had these new Michelin Defenders mounted and balanced (at my son's shop in CT) I had to go back and have the fronts rebalanced due to slight shake at 60 plus. They added a 1/2 ounce weight and it was smooth as glass.
I'm sure what I picked out of the tires was more than 1/2 ounce.

Yes, that's an issue with getting new tires, also throwing rocks chipping your paint around your fender wells also. That's also why I have mudflaps I don't like. After your tires wear down about halfway they don't do it much but then you have to look forward to buying new tires again! LOL

Drive faster, lol. I find mud or snow/ice build-up in the rims to be an issue at times with tire balance, but if you drive fast enough, stones in the treads don't seem to be a big issue, lol

I have the original Firestone Transforce tires that came on my 2500 last year and they pick up gravel all the time. Never had it affect my steering though. Once I get up to speed they start flying off and smacking the undercarriage.

I live on gravel, if I was picking rocks from tires I have no idea how much time I would have left to do anything, lol. I will say we got a flat recently on the rav 4 that we could not find, the wife picked up the vehicle from the shop so I wasn't able to get a answer what caused it, my theory was that a rock had work itself down. I guess we will never know, but I will take the troubles of country living over living in the city any day.

Amen to that. Worth the dust, rocks, and drive to be away from the city.

I don't live on gravel but I get on plenty of gravel roads when the wife and I travel looking for hiking and waterfall trails. I do what @Wild one was saying, I drive faster on small roads when cars aren't around to sling them out! LOL

I've been down that road as well. Try to keep the rocks off the paint and end up with ugly, wide flaps. I was just looking at my rock chip collection as I refused to put flaps on this truck. I hit the dusty roads and mountain passes regularly and don't want to rip one off traversing the back country, so the offset is rock chips.

I have the smallest mudflaps I could find so they don't look horrible. They do help sooooooo much! Sometimes I have to look at function over style/looks. LOL

When i was still leading or following trucks pulling Wide Loads.

We were always going to job sites that were dirt & gravel
Now that i spend way too much time at the Hospital, the roads are bad with all the new Buildings being constructed.
Always digging crushed rock out of the tires

I used to drive a semi in the Air National Guard. Let me tell you that doing a FOD check on an 18-wheeler before you drive onto the flight line to load onto a C-5 sucks! Lots of rocks in the treads.

My Leatherman came in handy for that.

You are not alone!

I've never gotten any shake, but I just hate the sound of stones exiting the tire tread and hitting the underbody.

That was about the only fix when tractor duals where packed with mud
Wild ride, pissed the dog off as she could not sleep
Could be a big problem with truck duals as well out in the fields

I'm dirt road also...I don't pick out the stones...what gets me is ill drive bout 5 miles to the interstate 55-60mph and nothing...get on the interstate 75-80mph...start hearing a couple hits underneath...1st one usually scares me.
Thats another one for how is that possible?when I just went 60....guess it needed that much more to get rid of it/them.not really stones more like pebbles.1/4-3/8th

It because the rubber has to heat up enough to soften and release the rocks. Takes a while depending on the temperature.
