Do not prefer fixed step bars. I like a clean look. Figured get a Amp step eventually, my buddy has one on his F-250 and they open pretty quiet.

So I get some installed and the driver side has a noticeable clank sound when it retracts. I ask the installer about it and he said most of the ones they install make a clanking sound. I noticed the bar is hollow so any metal on metal reverberates. Only problem I can not see where it might be making contact.

The little arms that open and close have a rubber bump that is supposed to dampen contact noise. Everyone that has been in the truck recently really like the step, but for me the clank is too much and wish i did not buy them.

I will look some more but not sure installer is willing to attempt to adjust them. We will see.

Sometimes as they close/retract, they will make contact with the pinch weld on their way by. Jump up and down on the step a few times and it should adjust a bit.

Mine did the same thing, there’s an anti-vibration canister under your driver door towards the front mount, mine was barely contacting that. I just moved it over little and now mine doesn’t ping

You might also want to check the parking brake cable it runs down towards the rear of the step on yne drivers side. There's a bracket that supposed to be installed to keep it from clanking on the step. Try having the steps open and close with the parking brake on and see if the noise goes away. There's definitely something going on. I have them on my truck and they don't make any noise at all. There's just something they're hanging up on or contacting. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Problem resolved.

Driver rear side edge was not far enough to the rear. The plastic edge cap was resting against the scissor arm when it retracted sending a reverb down the hollow step. Plus it was still barely touching the pinch weld in a couple places. It might be more quiet then the passenger side now. Ha ha.

Looks like it just barely touches the e-brake cable.

I just installed these last week, they are silent on my truck for the most part.

New bracket for the from ECU/PCM thing and for the E-brake provided more clearance.

I also installed them without the motors and hopped/jumped on them the set the linkages to clear everything, worked like a charm and had the perfect amount of clearance after.

Did the bracket come with the steps?
