I found an old thread concerning this but I thought I would start a new one as things likely change. I have a 2017 ram 1500 4 x 4 Limited. It is just short of being 1 year old and I have 30,000 miles on it. I plan on keeping it at least three more years, so I’m looking to buy an extended warranty, probably a five year 100,000 mile MaxCare. Best deal I can find is at this link, https://www.chryslerwarrantydirect.com/

Are there better deals out there? This was less expensive than Zeigler. Thank you

Purchased mine from Zeigler, both sellers are highly recommended here in the forum. Zeigler sometimes has promos - call and ask for Johnny.

At the time I purchased, Zeigler was the less expensive option.

What was your quote with CWD?

$1250.00 5 yr 100,000 with $200 deductible
Or
$1430.00 5 yr 100,000 with $100 deductible

They are offering $100 extra off each plan currently, which is reflected in the price is above.

I put on so many miles, I think it would be worth it for me. Otherwise I’m going to be out of warranty in just a couple of months with the truck that’s just barely a year old. I will typically trade off my truck right around 100,000 miles

Hello IMRAM,

Please just keep in mind when purchasing a contract that the expiration date pulls from the inservice date and 0 miles. So in other words the plan is designed to expire when the vehicle is at 5 years old & 100,000 miles.
So if you truly want 5 years of service and the vehicle is already 1 year old you should purchase a 6 year plan to insure that you truly get 6 years.

Is there a reason you wouldn’t just purchase a MAX Care Warranty and have a lifetime of protection?

I went with the Lifetime Warranty. I usually keep my vehicle well over 200K and so it was the best for me!! I bought mine from Ziegler. They were great to deal with.

I found 3 different dealers and in my case Clay Robbins from Robbins Motors had the best prices

My truck is out of factory warranty but they still can get you in for upto 5 years from when you buy the warranty

As mentioned above, if you still have time on your factory warranty then your new contract starts on the trucks in service date. So in your case a lifetime warranty will cost you less than I paid for a 5 year.

Here is his info
Thank you for the business and if you know anyone looking for a warranty send them my way. We have bought a new store, so please get my new email out there, [email protected]! Please notify whoever you heard about us that we have sold Zeller Motor Company and will be using Robbins Motors exclusively in the future.

Have you tried calling Zeigler and inquiring about a MaxCare warranty. MOPAR Lifetime, unlimited mileage.

Highly endorsed by forum members.

Ask for Johnny

Since I will trade around d 125k I don’t think it makes sense to pay more than a 5 yr 125k plan... maybe I am mistaken?

Honestly it comes down to lifestyle, expectations and goals.

I bought a 2015 RAM, had a couple flaky experiences while under factory warranty, became paranoid that sometime soon it would be coming out of my pocket and decided there is way too much that could go wrong.

I found out about the reseller market of MOPAR warranties, got a good price and purchased it. (Canceling the one I originally purchased at delivery.)

I am pretty meticulous about vehicle care, and with an unlimited mileage and unlimited time warranty, I am looking at my RAM as the last one I should have to buy, barring some unforeseen catastrophe.

Now, if you have money to burn, don’t care about car payments or always want to be in the newest model - I guess it doesn’t matter. Not trying to be a smarta$$, but as someone who puts on 20k miles a year, I want a high ceiling for mileage and limited risk ($100 deductible) for repairs.

The latest models of RAM are gorgeous, and frankly nicer (not necessarily more equipped) but more refined.

I can’t see jumping into a new one every 4-6 years...not at that cost. Way I see it, I have my truck, and my next vehicle can be something to race around on the weekend. And I will still be under warranty long after payments are complete.

BTW, there are limitations to the warranty. Transferability, vehicle mods, etc. all need to be factored in...but FCA is the only one who offers lifetime, and that may be enough to keep me as a customer for future vehicles.

The thought of anything electronic going bad is enough to make me sick. Not like years ago where repairs are simple.

If you are putting 30,000 miles a year in it then in 3 more years that will be an additional 90,000 miles. You should look at a higher mileage plan or the lifetime plan if you want coverage for the entire time and mileage.

I just purchased the lifetime Max care warranty for $3,000.If you keep your cars/trucks for more than 10 years it"s a good deal IMHO.

One thing about lifetime warranty,
There are limits based on vehicle value vs repair cost. At that point Chrysler will just buy your vehicle vs fix it any longer. I forget if it is an accumulated repair cost or not?

I don't think it's buying out vehicle but instead paying the value to buy out warranty because they state something like the warranty will no longer be in effect. So that implies you keep the vehicle.

The way I understand it, once the costs of the necessary repair are more than the vehicle is worth, they will cut a check for those repair costs (or the vehicle worth, not sure which) and then the warranty becomes "done" (void, whatever you want to call it)

They do not take possession of the vehicle. And that "limit" is not cumulative....its on a per-case basis.

This is correct. But you have to think that’ll be a long time into the future.

Absolutely. The way ANY pickup truck holds it's value, it's going to take a while before repair costs outweigh the truck value.

Even the 16 year old frontier I replaced with my ram was still worth $4k or so.

Agree completely. When it gets to that point, it’s close to retiring the vehicle depending on the issue.

The way I see it if you keep the truck long enough the warranty literally WILL pay for itself.

Yes and no.

I look back on that old Frontier of mine, and most of the stuff I had to fix wouldnt necessarily be covered.

Replacement bed because of rust.

Timing belt (not necessary on Hemi but still).

New brake calipers x3 (would be covered under MaxCare but Id be interested to see if they will force me ot buy new rotors which ARENT covered).

New rear leaf springs (equivalent probably covered under MaxCare)

BUT the big difference is all the electronics in the RAM vs the Frontier. Since the stuff is so modular its probably as simple as "just" replacing a module, but for electronics I would not buy used, only new, and brand new some of these modules are expensive. I bet THAT is where the warranty will pay off.
