Good Morning. I came here to do some research, get ideas, and possibly ask a question or a million.
I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Tradesman quad cab. Powered by the 4.7L plant and I’m guessing it’s backed up with a 6 speed automatic. I’m not sure if I have a towing package or not. I do know it has a factory mount tow hitch, factory mounted 7 pin round and 4 pin flat electrical sockets, and it has the tow/haul switch in the cab.
I bought this truck used, so I truly don’t know the rear end gear ratio. I do have the original window sticker somewhere. I’m not sure if that would tell me or not.
Anyhow, I’ve been doing some simple google searches to find out what my towing compacity is. And all I can really find is a range rating that says from 6,150-10,350 pounds.
So I come to the experts, you. Y’all have these trucks. Y’all work these trucks every day. Y’all know the capabilities of them. This is my first Ram, so I’m a dummy just starting.
I’m wanting to by a toy hauler travel trailer. I’ve already got it picked out, but been procrastinating on the purchase until I know I can tow it safely.
The unit I’m looking at is a 2019 Heartland Pioneer RG22. It has a dry weight of 4,476 pounds. And is 26’ 5” long. According to the specs I’ve read, the hitch weight is 828 pounds.
I’m guessing that the wet weight is 4,948 pounds with both propane tanks filled, the 41 gallon water tank filled, and a battery. And the wet weight for my motorcycle which I plan on having strapped into it is 930 pounds. With a estimated total of 5,878 pounds. This is without other camping supplies or truck occupants.
If my towing compacity is 6,150, just myself will push me over the limit.
So I guess my question is, will my truck handle hauling 6,500-7,000 pounds at a time?
The longest journey will most likely to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and back. Which is about 3,000 miles round trip.
