I cut my antenna in half and then plastidipped it! Sharpened the tip nice and sharp too. Reception is still good on the FM, but I don't even listen to that much, mainly ipod.

IIRC, I cut a foot off of mine. I removed/replaced the tip. I painted it flat black, and satin clear. Cost = $0 (I already had the paint). I haven't noticed any decrease in signal, except while in parking garages.

I went with an aluminum stubby antenna from Pep Boys. Think I paid $15 for it. Zero change in local reception. Don't pick up some stations farther out QUITE as good, but I'm mostly listening to XM, Pandora, or Ipod anyway. Trying to post pics.

Luckily, the tip was just pressed on. Hold the rod with a vise grips. Grap the ball tip with another pliers/vice grips, and twist. You can use a cloth between the pliers and tip --so it doesn't damage it much. I then cut the rod with a dremel, tapered the end slightly, and pressed the tip back on. It was tight enough, so it didn't require any glue, etc.

I got the 1.5" stubby off eBay, it's worthless but it looks cool.

I remember a little bit back someone had made a special bullet antenna, actually shaped like a round. Can't seem to find the thread though it was pretty sweeeeeet.
