Are these little chaslyn antifreeze testers any good? I felt it was giving me different readings every time. I averaged it out to about 3 balls floating per test. So basically I’m protected to about -10. So not great for Alaska. So I drained about 2 quarts from the radiator and refilled with 2 quarts of concentrate. Am I on the right track? I’ll retest tomorrow but hopefully I’m good after the adding of concentrate.

I still use a Prestone supplied version like this. I find them a lot more accurate than the ball type. I mix 70 coolant/30 water to get max freeze protection.
(Max protection for most Glycol is at 60% glycol to 40% water but I like the extra glycol just in case I have to add water on hte road and have no mixed or glycol to add with it.)

Yes that should bring it down with the concentrate formula, put that in the radiator.

I picked this up this morning gonna test it on a pre mix 50/50 to make sure it’s somewhat accurate so I have a base when testing my coolant in my truck.

If I remember correctly, after I refilled with 50/50 mix I had to swap in about 1 gal. of conc. to get to proper mix due to the distilled water left in the motor after the flush. Refractometer,$20.00.Peace of mind when it's 0 degrees, priceless.

The "new" style Refractometers are the best way to test our new OAT and HOAT coolants

Yep just tested the 50/50 mix with prestone tester and it’s accurate. So I’ll go ahead and drain a gallon out of the radiator and replace that gallon with concentrate and see what happens
