Anybody got a clue?

Backed out of the drive, put the truck in drive like normal. Something didn't sound right. Display shows 4thgear with the manual =/- lit up.
I thumbed it up to D but it almost immediately reverted to 4.
2013 5.7 six speed 19,800 miles
-7 degrees truck had not been started in about a week ,idled about 5 to 7 minutes before placing in gear.

Trans is in limp mode, any number of reasons for it. You can crawl it to the shop or get it towed. Any codes pop up?

Is the CEL on? Did it go back to normal after a key cycle?

I was all set up to have it towed in. Went outside started it up and all was normal.
Trouble is it has shaken my confidence.

Idling doesn't do much for warming up the trans, so if it's been sitting for a while in the cold it could have been something as simple as not enough line pressure because of the cold trans fluid not moving well enough. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this time an just drive it as normal.

i remember reading in the manual something about it limiting gears if the transmission is blow certain temps. haven't really experienced it myself except one day when it was -30C it wouldn't let me go above 2nd till it warmed up
