Anyone ever seen this?

2nd main from the front. Engine was locked up pulled the cap and found this turns freely now it’s like a 3mm steel ball but how would it of gotten there

The only place it could come from is the oil passage

Oddly coincidental...



Has this engine been rebuilt? Tumbling in steel shot is a common way to clean bare engine blocks before rebuilding these days. It gets into everything and has to be meticulously cleaned out before building.

I just purchased this truck. As far as I know it did not get cleaned only has 127000 miles The person I got it from said ((it was making a loud taping knocking sound. He had done

Water pump
Pushrods
Spark plugs
Map sensor
Head gaskets
Camshaft (non-mds)
Lifters (non-mds)
High volume oil pump
Oil pan gasket
Starter
Has non-mds tune on it

Drove fine to a side job and when I went to leave it wouldn’t start back up))

I got it engine locked couldn’t turn either direction

everything I find while researching says something about a oil Galley plug

Possibly maybe a failed part of a old MDS lifter? thats odd for sure but yea... that crank is smoked no saving that one...

As Ken states that engine was rebuilt at one point in time,as there's no steel balls used in a hemi,especially in that size. That ball had to come from the block being tumbled clean and it was lodged in the main bearings oil passage. It couldn't be sucked up from the oil pan as it would've locked up the oil pump,and even if it did make it past the pump,the filter would have caught it,so that ball was farther in,and the only way that would of happened was the engine was in a tumbler tank before being rebuilt,and when the block was cleaned that ball somehow managed to stay in the main bearings oil passage

I'm leaning to shot-peening crank and ball got stuck and overlooked until it decided to drop into play...

Well I put a new bearing in and it starts no noise. Oil pressure is 60 psi at idle
