Who's all running a programmer that lives in California? All the programmers I find with all the options aren't legal in Cali. And the ones that are, can't do half as much as the ones that are illegal? Almost seem pointless to buy. If I get a illegal one and need smogged, can I just return to stock and take it off with nothing showing up and no fails? or is that to much of a pain in the ass?

If you plan to stay near-stock, then just pick up a non-Cali programmer. You can remove the programming in less than 5 minutes and it's dead simple to do. You can remove the programmer the day before a normal smog check, drive it around a bit so all the sensors will be in Ready mode, or just move to a place with less/no emissions controls.

Yeah cali sucks for emissions. But like said above buy the programmer that you want then take it off when you have to take your truck in for smog. I also live in cali and i think im going to buy my programmer soon.

I am also in Nor Cal, but I have Florida plates. Lucky for me I fall under a lot of exemption. Run It if you want, then just return to stock prior to your smog test.

Haven't had to get my 12' smogged yet...but on my 07 I ran a tune, returned it to stock before the next smog test and passed. Shouldn't be a penalty as it would just show up as a failure and the mechanics would try to figure out how to fix(charge you) to get it to pass as with any other failure.
