I have 2 weeks off work because of.... well... you know.

Anyways, I need something to do, so I want to change every fluid on my 2015 1500 Hemi 8 speed 4x4.

Has anyone had any problems using Amsoil in the transfer case, instead of the super expensive Mopar stuff?

Thanks and be safe out there.

I'm assuming you have the 44-44 t case it's a technical Grey area. They changed the clutches in 2016 on these so they need the special stuff. I have a 2015 with the 44-44 auto t case and I've ran synthetic trans fluid in it for over a year now with no negative results.

My 2013 44-44 runs slightly better on Redline C+ than Amsoil MVATF but either should work fine for you. With the Amsoil I found the clutches tend to be slightly more sluggish to engage than with C+ or the Mopar fluid. But we're talking a split second difference....

Swapped to signature series at 90k miles in the 44-44 Borg Warner. OE ATF is not Chrysler spec certified according to their website.

Yes just did it a couple weeks ago at 50k, used Amsoil ATF. In fact my entire driveline is Amsoil.
Which trans do you have? Any issues running the Amsoil ATF in it? I've been weary or using Amsoil ATF in my 65rfe simply because it's a one size fits most fluid.....

Want your BW44-44 to fully lock? Contact @Brandon-w for a locking switch

I used the signature series.

If your cautious, I think any brand would be fine as long as you follow the specs of the component and follow the factory interval. In my case, I just prefer Amsoil because of it's longer interval and good personal history with it in other vehicles.

What’s in the transmission pan? Planned to do a filter change and top off what comes out @100k using a couple quarts of ZF fluid.

I put amsoil in both diffs, and transfer case with no issue. Closer to 30,000km with those fluids. I have the 45 case though.

You should have two filters. When you pull the pan off I would recommend putting in a hole and weld in a drain plug. That way it is so much easier to drain fluid out later. Don't know why they got rid of this from the old trucks.

Pretty clear IMO, they found a way to make dealers make top dollar for a simple tranny flush. Flush an rfe you pay $149 to $450 if they drop pan, flush a zf8 and the cost is most of the tme over 1,000 bucks. And I believe the zf8 takes less fluid as well.

Average cost to flush zf8 tranny
  • USA $824.00 to $1105.00 (before taxes)
  • Canada $1135.00 to $1490.00 (before taxes)
And the good news for dealers, people don't want to pay 1500 bucks to change a fluid, so they don't. Meaning, those transmissions wont last as long, and those people will be in the market for new trucks sooner then if they changed fluid. So either they will get people buying new trucks, or paying dealers to put in another transmision, or grossly over pay for a fluid change. In all 3 scenarios, the dealer wins.

^ Completely agree with Burla on all points.

I intend to throw caution to the wind and totally run with scissors by using valvoline maxlie ATF in my 2017 Ram 1500's BW44-44 T-case that's supposed to use the unicorn tears.

Same with the 8hp45 when I get around to it.

I'd have no problem using Amsoil or RL, it's just I love the availablity of Valvoline maxlife ATF and it's never let me down in the 'super special' applications I've run it in over the years.

Honestly if it takes out the clutches just get a set of Rockland clutches and have a better beefier unit and run what you want for oil. [emoji16]
