I've tried searching but haven't found much. Is anyone using shift kits or do you guys prefer tuners and programmers?

If you're using shift kits, which ones? anything to stay away from? One of the guys I work with has a kit from PATC (PATC 46RE 47RE 48RE Transmissions, Performance Transmission A518, 518) and has had good luck with it. I can't find where they have a kit for the 45 RFE though...

That's a little north of my price range. I'm just looking to firm up the shifts and get rid of the sloppiness.

Look into a sonnax line booster. That is cheap and will help with the firmer shifts.

I put a transgo "reprogramming kit" in my Dakota with a 545rfe. Basically a shift kit, took me about an hour. I didn't install the resistor because I was running a superchips programmer, paired those with the 4.56's it would grab second gear and hold it while doing a donut smoking the 33's. that truck was so much fun. For the 100 bucks or so it's well worth it. Definitely doesn't do any harm. And I think transgo is about the best company for shift kits.

if you have a dsp or intune From Diablo, I would get a custom trans tune, far better shifts with a full custom tuned t cm than I ever had with the sonnax line booster.

as already stated: go with tuning if possible. if that isnt an option and you are short on cash, the transgo kit is the way to go. I heard there is a fantastic guide in the DIY section here on that exact subject. If you have a little more dough to blow the sharadon VB is REALLY nice.

get a tuner, if you go Diablo you can get custom tune that will do everything and more than what a standard shift kit will do. this also means you won't be ripping into the trans to replace the springs.

would definitely pass on the hyper tech, not all programmers are equal and some really suck more than others. you can find used dsp's for around $100-$200 those will allow custom tuning, you can also find used superchips for around that too and get their advanced trans tuning. anything else I wouldn't even look at

I agree. For your 05, I would only go with Superchips or Diablo.

Sounds like I'm looking in all the wrong places them. The diablos and super chips I see are all over $200.

remember you also get what you pay for. hyper techs can't do half the stuff that superchips can and the dsp can do even more when it comes to tuning

I would stay away from hypertech just my 2cents. Stay with diablo or superchip. Your killing two birds with one stone better performance mpg and getting better tranny tuning

I have a DSP that I can no longer use. It's locked, but Diablosport can unlock it and it should come in under your $175 price point. PM me if you are interested.

I think that I still have all my shift points written down somewhere that ill send with it.. It was on an 05 as well.
