I finally did it. I created a 3D file and had this part printed. It fits in the Business Card Holder in my console...thus enabling my phone to sit in it without falling out.

I need something similar to this in my truck!!!!!!!!! I say I'm going to do tons of little things like this but never actually get them done

I nominate Wadestar for Ram owner of the year.

Wow! I'm quite honored! Just for this, I am going to send you a free phone holder when I get them back from manufacturing!

Email me your info at [email protected]

Seriously...Thank You!!

Sweet, the only problem is I don't have that configuration in my R/T.. Where your phone holder goes is where my shifter goes. I need to design one that goes in the bin next to it..

But Thanks. and its good to know your marketing your Idea.
I may hit you up for prototyping ideas I may have in the future though.
Got to love how technology has made the ability for us to create what we think of for our trucks

Gotcha! I know the configuration you are talking about.

If you can think of a design, sketch something up with some dimensions I will make a file and send it back for you to try.

It is pretty amazing to be able to think of something, and in just a few short hours have a prototype in your hand.

Keep in touch...and thank you again for your kind words!

I hear everything you said. It is crazy expensive. I think I explained this in an earlier thread, but the cost of the 3D printing is exactly that...the cost. I'm not marking those up one bit. That is exactly what it costs to have Shapeways print those. I checked out iMaterialize (sp?) and they were more expensive.

However...to fast forward to today. I tried everything I could to get the cost down but realized 3D printing was not the answer. I am now making the full plunge into the world of manufacturing and I currently shelled out the huge amount of money for the tooling to get them produced to a level that hopefully I can be around the $20-24 range to sell them. AND...I should note, I am having them made with a premium material (not a cheap plastic material) so they will match the quality I want in my truck...and I am sure everyone wants in their truck.

So...if you are patient, hopefully in about 60 days I will have these phone holders in hand, and at a low cost.

Wade

These are awesome! I will definitely be purchasing one when you get up and running.

You need to patent this and sell it to every RAM dealership in the U S of A!

Thank you, Milt IV! I really appreciate your kindness! I promise you...I am working on this each and every day to get these to people like you all the more quicker!

You are a blessing!

Glad to hear your taking the plunge Wade! As a side note, I ordered a small holder awhile back for my IPhone 5S and it fits nice and snug with my Lifeproof Fre' case.

That's good stuff Wade... Also my name is Wade so this is going to get confusing haha.

If you need any help, I work with SolidWorks everyday and I'm happy to provide you with some models or assistance.

Are you printing these at home or getting them printed somewhere else? I know a bit about 3D printing and I have an engineer friend that worked with it heavily for a few months that I could glean some information from.

(EDIT) Just realized you said you aren't printing them anymore lol.

Personally I would love to see a system like the RAM mounts for motorcycles. They're modular in nature. One part that's specific to the vehicle and mounting location, another part that's specific to the phone make/model and maybe even case, and something to connect the two.

Wade,

You are right...this IS going to get confusing! Lol.

I can already tell you are a much smarter man than me. I take my hat off to you for your knowledge of Solidworks. I am using Onshape...which was started by an ex-Solidworks executive.

It has been a whirlwind experience, going from not even knowing how to create a 3D model, to having something 3D printed, to having something manufactured. I am thankful for all those who have helped me along the way...including you.

I like your thoughts about having a two piece system. That would be a beautiful and practical design.

It all came down to tooling cost and the market. Every piece that I make has to prove financial sense to cover the huge tooling cost to make it. I decided on a static holder...but in three different sizes to hopefully accomodate most of the phones + cases out there.

I also opted for a premium material that will be rubbery in texture and allow a nice fit for the phone, as opposed to a cheap plastic thing that the phone will slide around in.

Who knows where all this will go, but I simply thankful for people like you who have offered their support and help in this. Thank you...Wade!

Happy I can help! If you ever have any questions shoot me a PM.

I remember from the stuff I've had prototyped that something about that size could cost as much as a couple hundred dollars to print if you paid someone else and got the high end material with a precision print. Not exactly cost effective...

In any case, I'm excited to see what you come up with!

So here's what I'm thinking...

Take a page from Wade's design and make something that fits directly into the card holder. I'd probably use some double sided tape as well to secure it unless people wanted to bolt it in, preferably from the backside so it doesn't show.

Then put a ball on the end of it and use a RAM mount for that phone.

RAMMOUNTS - RAM X-Grip® Large Phone Features

They look like this for people that are too lazy to use the link lol:

You're welcome!

I used the RAM system on my motorcycle all the time. Made it a lot easier to Bluetooth music and get GPS directions. It stood up to 150+mph, so it's good quality.

I'm in! Glad I found this. Kind of funny because when I first got the truck I was setting me phone there thinking wow they should have made this a phone holder. Reminded me of my 94 Camaro how in the center console there's a casette tape holder and my car came from the factory with a CD player. :emotions34:

John94z...that is too funny about your Camaro. My 1995 Dodge Ram had cassette slots in the center console, but 94-95 were certainly the twilight years for Cassette tapes.

I am glad you are in. I am hoping to have the first samples by September 15th and then full production (if no changes are needed) right after that. I am really hoping for October 15th they will be ready to order. I will certainly let you know.

Thank you again for your interest!
