I am using stock HU power for my rears in my crew cab and I think it works really well even though I am sending 700 watts to the front part of my cab. 700 loosely mind you, by time you tune and balance, the actual used wattage is much different.

I would recommend giving it a try this way, it adds a nice ambience without wrecking all of the hard work you put in up front. If you do not like it, you can always add to the rear later.
Oh nice. Thanks you made me a little more confident in it

So a little update. Got the PPI 3 ways in today finally. First impressions are, eh. The tweeter and mid are very detailed and sort of on the bright side. I am running an audio control lc6i and have the gains adjusted rather high to keep the amp gains low and prevent hissing. I am actually having to turn the highs down on the stock HU all the way and the mids partial to help let the woofer keep up. The tweets are mounted flush in the sail and the mid range in the dash. Woofer in the door. The doors are somewhat deadened as well and there are no rattles surprisingly. I can see why guys go active on three ways. Already thinking about running my ed nine.4 for the mids and highS and the new ppi ba1600.4 for the woofers only.

Spud, have you tried changing any of the jumpers in the crossover? You can tone down both the mid and tweeter there and then hopefully HU adjustments can get you dialed in a little better.

I would also try to rotate the tweeter a so it changes dispersion patterns. ATMs are neat where you can do that and hopefully it will dime them a bit.

So completely forgot about the crossover adjustment. Went out this morning and set the tweeter at -3db. The midrange contour was already set to on from the factory so I didn't know if turning it off would tone it down or not so I left it. I also put the entire driver side out of phase. It helped bring in the midbass a little and did tone down the highs a bit, but still a little harsh. I'm thinking step two is a decent eq. I downloaded an audio spectrum analyzer for my iPhone (I know), so I'm going to get some white noise and give it a shot to see where I'm standing. I can tell there is a big dip around my mids for sure though. More time to play.

I ran the Hertz Hi-Energy 3 ways on my first build, they sounded awesome! Like you said, everything fits in the truck pretty easily. I tried the tweets on and off axis and off axis sounded much better, IMO.

My second build was also 3 way, but active and a little more elaborate... ;)
Hey Davidram where did you get/base your mid off of? Do you have photos on the process of making it?
