I want to build a good system but want to make sure everything fits. Has anyone put the JL AUDIO C5-653 in their Rams? I was wondering if the mid range driver would fit in the dash? If i can get them to fit this is what my setup would be

Front: JL Audio C5-653

Rear: Jl Audio C2-690tx

Sub: JL Audio SB-D-QDRAM/10W3v3

Amp: JL Audio HD900/5

Any pointers, advice or recommendations on speakers or amps that would be equal or greater quality with a similar price would be appreciated.

I just did a decent little build in my Ram. I used some plates to put the tweeters in the 3" location. I think it'd require some considerable cutting to get the midrange in the dash. You'd be better off trying to build a baffle for the 6.5 and the 4" together. Then again, I like my midrange in a 3 way a little higher than that would place them.

You might consider dropping the rear fill all together. I originally put some Alpine Type Rs in mine for rear fill, but found that from the driver position, you're so far off axis, and so far away, that the full range portion of the 6x9 was useless. I think between your 6.5 and your sub, you're going to have the frequencies covered for bass that those would put out - so you may not even need them in an LPF situation.

Plus, the sound quality of that C2690 isn't going to be as good as the 3 way set if full range.

Just something to consider.

In order to fit the 4 inch you would need to cut part of the 3 inch opening. If you have a dremel it can be done. Are you planning to use the factory head unit.? I also agree with no rear fill.

I put a 4" mid in the dash with minimal trimming and I was able to keep the factory mounting holes for when I switch everything back to stock for re-sale purposes. so I'd do 4" in dash, tweeters in the sail panels, and midbass woofer in doors.
For get about rear fill...its a waste and you'll want all your attention on your front stage anyway. IMO

That's good to hear that I'm not going to need to hack my dash to pieces. Did you use a dremel?

I installed the Hertz Hi-Energy 3 way system in my Ram and they sound great.

The 3" midrange fit easily in the dash positions with the tweeters in the sail panels. The midbass drivers went in the doors.

Keep in mind that there's a limit to how far apart you can run those C5s from each other before they start sounding like crap. When I ran them IIRC it was a max of 12" apart between the mid and the tweeter so splitting them apart in the cab doesn't do well unless you run them as an active crossover and don't use the supplied passive crossover.

I second the Hertz speakers as one of the very best midbass speakers made today
