Anyone running e85? On ram?

It's only worth while to run E85 when it's at least .50 cents cheaper then regular gas. I run it most of the time during the summer, get about 2-3 miles to the gallon less mileage. If it's less then .50 difference then it doesn't save anything running it.

No one wants the **** here. Sure it’s cheaper, but your mileage goes to ****. Unless you are running it to strictly make power, no gain. From a business standpoint, which is the way I look at it, it has long outlived it’s usefulness. The whole process of producing ethanol from corn is a big joke.

Exactly, we get by the barrel for power, plus flex fuel lets mix it up anyways, **** mpg!!!!

You don't have to advance the timing the truck does it for you... there's a sensor that lets the computer know when you run E85. That's why you are suppose to only switch to E85 on an empty tank and not mix with standard gas.

That doesn't make any sense. How does one go about getting all the fuel out of your tank before filling w/ E85? Virtually all E85 is mixed onsite...and is invariably 50-85% ethanol. You can absolutely mix 93 octane with E85 safely. Those are the legal requirements. The only guaranteed E85 I know of is canned...and is expensive. That is why for performance one checks the ethanol percentage before pouring into their tank...and then purchase from than same supplier as it will generally be the same % of ethanol.

If an engine is tuned for E85 and 93..it can run on anything from 0-85% ethanol, at anytime, any place.

You’re not suppose to mix say 50/50, you’re suppose to wait til your tank is almost empty.... at least that’s what FCA recommends.

Ok. There are two different types of tune you can do. (Based on the evo, because you can tune the stock ECU).
1) you set up dual tunes. This is done by using the cruise control button (hold for 3 seconds). So. Normal tune is for 93 pump gas. When I want to run E85. I empty the tank out as much as possible fill up with E. And hold the button for 3 secs. A light flashes on the dash to let your know what tune you are on.

2) using a GM flex fuel sensor. Using this turns your car in a true flex fuel car. No matter the mixture of gas/ethanol. The sensor will give a Ethanol percentage back to the ecu, which will then add/pull fuel, and timing. To keep everything at optimal.

My 4.7 Ram is Flexfuel. I've never seen any e85 to try or know what's different as far as parts or sensors that makes it flexfuel ready, or if it will give more power and less mileage. I wonder if it would be good for towing my camper?

The only difference is your truck has the electronics, and sensors to apply the optimum air fuel ratio depending on the ethanol/gasoline mixture.

Towing could potentially benefit from E85, as it makes more power. Therefore making it easier to tow. However. I guarantee you wouldn't get more than 200 out of a FULL tank of E85 towing anything more than your own ass hahaha.

It makes more power than pump gas because of a higher resistance to knock. So you can advance timing more.

Exactly. Hence the crappy gas mileage right?

For a truck. If I could without modification.. I would only use E85 like once a month. Basically just to clean the top end. Like piston tops, valves and the combustion chamber on general.

After scoping my cylinders in the evo from running E85 ONLY.. my pistons still look brand new. No carbon deposits at all.

Why go to E856? Yep you get a little HP add but you'll use a whole lot more fuel to get it AND it isn't worth the effort to do with any mods. Want more real power stick with mid grade or go to premium and then do your ECM, etc. upgrades. Cost you less in the long run and your engine will be happier for it.

Im looking into doing some bolt on upgrades, intake, headers, exhaust, and wanting to convert to e85, will the stock fuel system keep up? Can the fuel flex work in stock ecu ? Has anyone tried this? Lol tia!

Want more real power stick with mid grade or go to premium and then do your ECM, etc. upgrades. Cost you less in the long run and your engine will be happier for it.

If you are chasing bigger numbers or purely wanting to go faster, its definitely worth it. It helped my car tip over 600hp at the crank.. and that's in a 2.0l, 4 cylinder.

How much power did your 2.0 put out with 10% ethanol and how much advance did you need to add to get that kind of power increase?

Lower MPG with E85. More Corn used for fuel and more food is going to cost. Corn production is labor intense and susceptible to drought which would could increase cost drastically. Add in that it can also attract contaminants easier than gas resulting in breakdowns. Why risk it.

True but it raises profit for the farmers and really makes our representatives in congress happy because each farmer gives a little $ to them and when added up is a lot of $ for each politician. Most members in congress are millionaires and term limits are the only cure in my opinion.
