I know a lot of you recommend a catch can and that's why that's already on my list.. So is there anything else I should have on my truck to make it last longest? can you really blow a traanny that easily? Because i want to do a few performance mods but I'm scared I'll blow a tranny. I know this topic is probably over asked but I just want some help

I'm scared I'll blow a tranny.

The minute this thought crosses your mind, it's time to stop drinking... forever.

To answer your question, from everything I've seen, the guys whose transmissions are blowing are the ones supercharging them, racing them or doing full-throttle downshifts at 60+ mph and abusing the hell out of them.
Mild mods aren't going to hurt.

be nice to the tranny, don't comment on the chin stubble etc.

seriously though, drive it like a truck, don't do WOT downshifts too often and change fluids as needed..you'll be fine. Mine is a 2010 as well, runs and shifts very smooth. I never bought into this catch can business.

Is this particular to the hemi engine or dodge . I came over from ownin a few GM v8's. Owned a 97 convertible z28, 99 Pontiac trans am ws6 and a 2001 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L. I wot those vehicles constantly with no problem really. My trans am did have a knock sensor issue once though.

I just hit 1000 miles on my R/T and decided to lay down some rubber earlier today. Got into 3rd and then let off a bit . Seemed to do great.

Ya know, I am NOT trying to be argumentative, but everyone always says that WOT downshifts are what kills these transmissions. And I am NOT arguing with that one single bit. BUT, I have over 72,000 miles on my two year old truck now, and I WOT downshift almost every single day. Usually at least a couple times, sometimes alot. I do not abuse my truck in any other way than that. But I do pass trucks etc driving slow and will floor it whenever I pass to get by them quicker. Judge me or not. Don't care....LOL. Seriously this tranny has held up to that quite well. Whenever I do blow it up I will get a built one to replace it, on my dime, not Dodge / Ram. MY fault I know it will be. I idle a LOT every day (sometimes ALL day - 12 or more hours), in high heat (South Texas), in dusty dusty dusty conditions, and this tranny is still shifting like a brand new one, even doing all those WOT downshifts from 60 mph. Or 40 mph. Or 70 mph. Or.... I had the fluid / filter changed / flushed at the dealer the first time at 30,000 miles, then 2000 miles later had the Edge torque converter installed (the shop I used replaced a few quarts of fluid with new), then changed it the second time at 70,000 miles at dealer again. So I am **** about fluid changes etc. My mods have all been on there for at least a year and a half, with the torque converter and HF tune (ran Bully Dog 93 tune before this) being installed at 30,000 miles probably a year or less ago. I run 93 tune. TC, PTB, CAI, 180 TS, HF tune, Magnaflow / Mufflex. So, everyone 'splain to me why MY tranny hasn't failed yet. I am sure it will one day, but I downshift like hell when I pass and I don't usually use the shifter to do it. So what gives on this issue, guys and girls? Don't flame me, I may have gotten the only trans that was built well. lol

It's hard to say, I see your point too. I guess its the same as 4wd vibration after a level, luck of the draw.

I drove a mustang gt until june 2013, that's when I got this truck, and I was all too happy with the hemi and also WOT downshifted often, then I read about weak transmissions..so I stopped. I still downshift to pass but not WOT.

Perhaps..it's people with stock transmissions and heavy performance mods that abuse them and cause them to fail?

Maybe. I don't know. My 07 hemi truck has over 170,000 miles on it and has been beat up on more than the 12 truck has for a lot longer and it's still on its stock tranny. Superchips tuner with trans tuning for the past 90,000 miles and who knows what type of tune was ran before that. Still shifts perfectly. Weird. I am sure someone who knows more will chime in soon. I just know from MY experiences with my trucks. I have always had pretty good luck with my vehicles in the past. Maybe that is what it is. Oh yeah, I run BT catch can, too. Maybe THAT's what it is? And I just put a drain valve on it the other day to make it more like a Moroso can, alah 1886 or whatever his name was........LOL

It was just a guy a while back that would absolutely hammer anyone who bought a BT can and not a Moroso can. Basically said we were all stupid for it. Just an old reference, my bad. But I am NOT telling you it is ok to WOT downshift!! Trust all the other more knowledgeable guys. I think I am one of the lucky ones.

If you are planning on adding some power mods and want to drive it accordingly, the one thing you could add is a sharadon valve body. It could/should help the life of your tranny and give you some pretty firm, fast shifts.

I'm not sure anything is going to help.

For one nothing has been proving to help. People getting there tranny built and still having problems.

To be honest if I would have known about the trans issues. I wouldn't have got the truck or waited for the 8 speed.

It's the same way with my GTP, trans is made of glass. I've already been through two.

Dodge hasent been know for there transmissions, but they are getting better. I believe that most people dropping there transmissions are heavily modified. I know a guy that has a 05 with 150k on the clock and no issues. I personally wouldn't worry about it unless your putting bigger cam and Getting cylinder head work done. Just a tune, intake, TB, exhaust the basics I wouldn't worry about it just keep up with the fluid change it by the book and spend money on other mods!

Sorry ti drag on the tranny issue but while its being duscussed how come we cant get built trannys that last but but dodge throws the 8 speed in the hellcat, what are they doing to it to handle that power, i know the 8 is rated for higher power then the 6 but still not that high?or even the 6's that were in the previous srt8's

so from what I understand I can put a CAI, tb, and HF on it without doing any damage if I dont abuse it? its a fast truck, that hemi wants to go, so I do have a heavy foot often. thanks guys for the clarification.
