without going with a screen, is there anything on the market that you spray on the front of your truck to make it easier to clean the bugs of after a long drive?

I know my brother had bought some type of bug removal spray once. Not sure what it was exactly called or where he got it but it worked pretty good for taking the good majority of the bugs off your bumper, grill, etc. You first start by spraying down the problem areas of your vehicle with the bug removal spray then letting it sit for 5 minutes. Once the 5 minutes are up take your garden hose and rinse it off. It takes most of the bugs off bug not all. For those stubborn ones you'll probably still need to scrub them off by hand.

True story; long time ago my grampa told me peanut oil made it easier to clean bugs off. So my 1st big Calgary-Winnipeg drive what did I do? Cover the grille, bumper, front of hood and front of mirrors with peanut oil.
It freaking streaked back in the wind, dripped down my doors etc and was the hardest crap I've ever had the misfortune of washing off my car. I had to use bug & tar remover. And it did NOTHING to help get the bugs off. I felt like such a dummy.

On my motorcycle to get the bugs off I spray it with hydrogen peroxide first then cover it with old towels that are wetted down in hot water. The hydrogen peroxide eats the bug guts without harming the clear coat.

In south Georgia, we get love bugs twice a year, once in spring and again in the fall. Words cannot describe how evil these things are (just google it) but they will absolutely coat the front of a vehicle and will eat away the paint if you don't remove them. I've read a million old wives tales but none of them ever worked for me. I've found the best thing is preventative maintainence. As soon as I start seeing them, I'll wash and wax the front of my vehicle. This makes them easier to remove them. Then I'll wash or wipe them off the nose of the vehicle at least once a day. I'll usually apply a coat of wax every couple days at a minimum.
Funny this post came up as I saw a couple of love bugs yesterday. These evil SOB's usually last about two weeks. Thank God it's not any longer!

Oh yes, LOVE bugs.. We get them too.

There actually out right now. It's been a while since we've had them bad and this looks like the year..Yaaaaaaa

I hate them and there's really nothing you can do make them easier to get off and yes you leave them on there too long. There acid guts will eat through your clear coat.

Seen it happen many times.

I agree that prevention is the best thing you can start with. A good wax on the hood and grill and bumper will help when you remove the bugs. Remember that any liquid solution that is strong enough to remove bugs will probably remove your wax also. I use a bug sponge and warm soapy water, however because of the texture of the bug sponge I don't use it on painted surfaces because it will put scratches in the paint. One solution may be is to put a 3M invisible bra on any painted surfaces around the front of the truck. You can then scrub the bugs off without damaging the paint.

I use some used dryer sheets (the ones you put in your clothes dryer) with just water and it takes them off supper easy. I'm in Southeast Texas and it's the begining of lovebug season here.

Detailing Clay will get it off. Just need a lube and you use it like you are erasing a pencil mark with an eraser.
