So I called dealer yesterday, it was literally last day of warranty. Got appt for today to look at driver exhaust leak/bolt. So basically I called and reported it on the last day of warranty, then the next day I have it a t dealer. They are saying technically they don't know if it will be covered under warranty or not since its one day past. But I reported it during the warranty period. I just noticed the slight tick this week. Any tips or tricks I can pull to get this completely covered would be helpful thanks

Well they said no broken bolts, can't tell any leaks. I decided to take truck back and tomorrow I may go check them myself.

I am 3 weeks until warranty(power train) expires. So about 9 days ago I had a shift solenoid issue and thought, hmm, one day I noticed idle was high at startup, was first sign of broken bolts on my 05 Durango hemi, so told them there may be broken bolts and sure enough, they put new bolts in passenger side. Think I got lucky.

Open a ticket with RamCares on this forum. I had the sales manager try to tell me it was the normal hemi tick until he received a call from RamCares then all of sudden he was interested in having his tech taking a closer look. 2 broken bolts were found.
I also mentioned to RamCares and the dealership that I was close to being out of my warranty and expressed my feelings that the broken bolt issue is common and could very well happen after my warranty expired. I was led to believe that because it is such a wide spread problem that there is a good chance it can still be covered after your warranty has expired.

It may take some tough talk on your part though. Contact RamCares, they helped me out.

I've had mine replaced already and it started ticking again from the same side manifold. Called dealership they gave me a hard time because I had already had it in to fix the recall on the bolts. Going to call a different dealership to resolve the issue because it's not an owners problem they replace with the same crappy part.

Yeah the service advisor mentioned the goodwill thing, which I may have to do. He mentioned small copay, like a deductible. They wanted to keep truck overnight to get cold and check for leaks but didn't have any loaner cars, so he said reschedule for next week and he is going to keep the order open. My worry is that they didn't find any broken bolts, and it's leaking but no broken bolts yet. Pretty faint but I can tell something is there when it's cold. I am going to look into contacting ramcares, although nothing has actually been done yet as far as work on the truck goes.

Get a piece of hose, about 3 feet long, like water hose size. Hold one end to your ear and go around the motor with the other. This will help you pin point where the leak or ticking is coming from. Obviously, you don't want to melt the hose so be careful not to touch the manifolds.

Sometimes I think parts have a "timer" on them. They go bad the day after your warranty expires.

I used a long screwdriver until I discovered Harbor Freight. They have a cheap and effective stetescope at a reasonable price...

it is unacceptable to tell you it is out of warranty.
they have no choice but to cover that repair.
you had a warranty and called them with the issue while you had an active warranty. I would have a field day with that service manager....

Friend of mine went through something similar, but with a BMW M3.

A week before going out of warranty the CEL came on. He called dealer immediately (like while he was driving and the CEL came on, immediately). They said no problem, we cant get you in until 10 days later.

10 days later he goes for appointment, they call him back saying its going to be a $12K out of warranty fix (not a "made up so we can make money" $12K....a typical $12K BMW repair). He told them he wont be paying a dime because he called them BEFORE the warranty expired.

Took a little fighting but eventually they did cover it because it wasnt his fault they made him wait 10 days.

The same exact thing should be happening for your repair. And I would make sure its NOT listed as goodwill....because if there comes a time you actually NEED a goodwill repair, they will just say "sorry, we already helped you once"

The basis fact is that the issue was opened BEFORE your warranty was up. Keep to that story.

I had similar BS happen to me. I have Fog in my headlight and brought it in to see if there's anything they would/could do about it.

It was then I discovered I was about a month out of coverage and anything they looked at/ did I would have to pay out of pocket.

They still tried to get me to take a look at it after they explained Id have to pay... no thanks buddy haha

I literally said "so you're telling me theres nothing you can do about it and you still want to take a look so you can tell me that you can't do anything about it?" the service employee taking the ticket looked like he was told santa isnt real.
