I don't have any issues with the auto-headlamps feature, I actually like it. The problem I have and it sounds like many share the same, is when the exterior lighting is automatically turned on, the action causes the interior DIC and infotainment system to change lighting which in most cases, makes it difficult to see which adds a distraction.
What they should do is have a separate sensor for interior lighting levels and use this system to fade in lighting changes as the interior ambient lighting changes and provide the user the ability to adjust the sensitivity and set points.
I have exterior lighting set to turn on when the wipers are activated, notice the interior displays are not affected by this. Some small engineering facet is thinking, they just need to do a bit more thinking.
