Deb and i are still making progress on this big old 97. Well i jacked up the right front tire and opened up the cad. I had to lift the axle slightly to get the collar to line up with the intermediate axle, set the fork to 4wd and reassembled. None of the dash lights work so i climbed a hill that she previously didnt have a chance of climbing. 4x4 good. Put in 2wd then of course wont go back to 4wd. I have read many posts on this issue and studied manuals but still cant wrap my head around the plastic piece that should be between the two axles to line them up. Can anyone describe this. How it fits in and so on. Thx

Are we talking about a Dana 44 front diff in your 1997 Ram?

Can you provide some pics of the issue you are having?
