I also added a small amount of RTV on the end of the rails so it dosnt leak in the rear of the bed.

I installed mine last week. In true male do it yourself fashion.. I came across a yellow sheet included with the instructions. It referred to shim installation. I watched all kinds of videos on installing on a 2013 Ram 1500 with bed rail caps. None of them mentioned or showed anything about having to use the included shims. The yellow sheet says 09-16 Rams needs angle shims installed. Any thoughts?

Not sure, but I couldn't see why I needed the shims. I played with them but decided not to use them. My cover has been installed and working fine for 8 months or so now, so I'm not convinced that I should have used them.

I have had both the Fibermax and F1, both will fade (had 3, all faded and were warrantied).

The MX4 seems to dent very easy, at least on my truck and I don't use it allot)

I went with the F1; hoping to install it this weekend.

Apparently, with the F1's, you can now open/close the tailgate while the cover is down/locked. Plus, 3-year warranty. I'm assuming that fading is covered? Thank you in advance.

Shims?

Did anyone get anywhere on the Shims issue? My MX4 did not come with them, but says should be used. Install went well IMO.

I have MX and ued no shims with OEM plastic bed caps.
Mine came with some stripes of black plastic sheet what i guess are "the shims"
There where bed lenght stripes and a bunch of about inch long stripes.
I used them to protect the bed from beeing scrached by the clamps ...
Mine is leaking a few drops when it's pouring down really hard and it's not fading while being exposed to the tropical sun of Costa Rica.
The only issue is see is that the completely back folded cover pushes against the rear window and not against the metal body.
Driving in a pothole (frequent here ...) or a speed bump may smash the folded cover against the window breaking it.
2 spacers of rubber would fix that issue.
I am considering to get 4 diamond tread aluminum sheets to glue on the back plastic to protect it from sun and generate less heat.

The MX4 might be the right one, but just make sure that the one you buy, you can close the tailgate with it down. My dad has one of the bakflips and you have to open the cover to close the tailgate. It's a terrible design. He hasn't had any leak issues though.

I HATED that with the bakflip on my Silverado. It was the most annoying **** in the world to me.

The tailgate will close with a BackFlip MX4 and you can lock your MX4 with the tailgate lock.
I have it because of that and it works.
