I got the truck at around 35k miles, has 60k now, and the first winter I noticed it had **** heat. If it's really cold, the passenger side will give a little warm air and the drivers side blows cold air.

Would this be as simple as flushing the heater core?

I'd check the radiator hoses at almost 5 years old.
Fresh hoses, t-stat & coolant might be a good idea.
Could be all it needs.

What is your coolant temp getting to? I had to replace my thermostat at about 60k. Stick open and temp would only get up to 180 or so.

Definitely try flushing/cleaning your heater core. My daughter's Dodge Nitro would do the same thing and I would have to flush the core. I used Prestone radiator cleaner. Mixed up a small batch in hot water and filled the core. Let it sit for an hour or so and then flush in both directions. So far it's worked every time.

This was pretty much what I was thinking. I'll give this a shot!

Have you had a chance to flush it? Just curious if it worked?

I had the same issue and i solved it on three attempts. First attempt did a standard flush with distilled water and replaced thermostat and backflushed the heater core , i unhooked the hoses from the water pump/engine and took a garden hose low pressure and ran it both ways several times. i did notice the after flushing the heater core my bucket caught some sand looking material. i then force fed distilled water through the heater core to get out the hard water. Filled with antifreeze ran for a week and no improvement. Second attempt did the same procedure but i then drained and added blue devil coolant flush topped off with distilled water let it idle 20 minutes then drained (very suprised how dirty it was when drained) ran one more rotation of distilled water and drained refilled with coolant. Drove for a week and drivers side heat improved a little. Last attempt drained flushed heater core both ways added a small bottle of clr through the heater core hose and let it sit 10 minutes, force fed about six gallons of distilled water through the heater core hoses and when satisfied i force fed coolant through the heater core hose to try to prevent air. refilled system with collant burped the system and the heat through the vents was excellent. hope this helps sorry to be so long winded. I am totally convinced my heater core was clogged based on the sand-like material i caught after flushing the heater core.

Make sure you wear safety glasses when back flushing with those chemicals, especially the CLR

You can use Low Pressure Compressed Air or a garden hose with low pressure to back flush just the HVAC system
set the controls to the high heat setting
I don't recall if the fan has to be on

I watched several variations on Youtube
