so for a while now my truck doesnt want to start. it only happens after i drive it in the rain. it seems like there is just a little water getting on the battery but never on the connections. now what really confuses me is, if i turn the key to just turn the appliances on it works just fine. radio comes on and all. but the second i try and start the truck it seems the battery is dead. no battery acid on the cables. but what i do is i pop off the terminal and clean it a little and then it starts up just fine.

anythoughts?

you mean starter?
either way it doesnt make sense to me. why would trying to start it kill the battery?

I'd say starter. Is it clicking at all, or just dead quiet?

dead quiet except for the dash. if it was the starter why would taking the battery terminal off help? ive been doing this for the past couple months. the starter would have gave out long ago.

Are you removing the positive or negative cable from the battery?

Hmm. Have you checked your grounds on both ends? I was having a similar problem on mine and ended up being a bad negative terminal and two bad grounds

Turns out it was the battery (had a dead cell) Had it Checked and it may read ok but.
Check the cables mine were loose and I'd had the same problem when my truck got wet. Possible short. Truck would run ruff for awhile.
Hope this helps

I was just going to reply it has to be a dead cell. I had that on my Durango about 2 years ago.

Sears has a really good Platinum battery, that is real strong. Few more bucks than the gold series but worth it for extra accessories.

Glad you got it resolved though.

It stopped happening for a while, then the other day, when it wasnt raining at all it happened about 5times in a row. In the same day... So i ended up buy all new battery wires and connectors. Bought a terminal cleaning kit. Cleaned it really well. Hopfully this will stop it. And what i found out was i didnt even have to take the connector off of the terminal. I just had to wiggle it... So i think that was my problen. Gonna try grounding out my TB this week. See if that changes anything
