This was done over 30 years ago by a company called Second Seat. Bought their setup and hauled my kids around in the back of a regular cab 4X4 when it was legal to do so. They didn't last long as they were deemed unsafe even though they had four point harnesses. This probably won't last long either imo.

I haven't. If I am not mistaken, in NJ they would be illegal. Maybe adding a cap would be a loop hole.

Some states require a cap... Surprisingly NJ doesn't... I'm sure they'll add that as soon as I add the seats but I got a cap anyway, lol

I could see these as being fun with friends or short commutes out in the country or just having some seats to hang out in at tailgates (but you could also just put chairs in a bed for that) but no way would I put my child in one. If we had a rollover they are completely exposed to the pavement. And I also agree on legality. They may be legal but that doesnt mean you wont run into problems with Law Enforcement whos common sense just throws up red flags at the sight of these.
