I am still running my stock 3.73 on my 04 Cummins with 35" Mickeys and get 17 on the interstate at 75 in 6th at 2200. It just seemed a bit of overkill.. I only go with the recommended.. That's why I asked.

Cummins are a different animal and cannot be compared with how the hemi gets it done.

I see.. You make the Hemi sound all superior in that statement. Lol.
I can see that higher gears would mean higher torque, but like I said, I do not understand the point in a half ton that has no business towing.

It wasn't meant to sound superior, it's a statement that the hemi builds it's power differently than a diesel.

My two Cents! Tires bigger than 32 inch on a Gas Truck (P285) will Kill Your performance been there done that. 4.56 Is an awesome Gear and hits the sweet spot just fine at 70 MPH and in town and lower speed mileage is improved. 4.56's with a torque converter and Cam that makes power to 6500 really helps to get these trucks moving AKA Hard 4 Hi Launches (Downside is the Halfshafts only last about 3 years before they start to shake badly).

By the way, you can cam a 03 just fine with a superchips tuner, run a 260 or sidewinder style cam or custom grind and you will be just fine, about to drop a custom grind in my 03 and see how it does. My qc has run 8.40's so far and am looking to run 8.10 to 8.20 before nitrous . An that's all on a canned 91 SC tune. No other tuning

Ppl still tow lots of things with half tons( boats, smokers, small trailers , etc.) believe me when I say that 4.56 gears will be one of your favorite mods to your truck, along with long tubes , cam and converter you will never wipe the smile off your face. Good luck with which ever route you take as there are many 03 guys on here to guide you:)
