Beware Goodyear May Pop

I work in the tire industry and it is totally standard for trucks to not have a full size. It use to be everything matched. Anymore though, it's not a matching size and most of the time even matching tire brand/model. My 2014 Express that I had, more-or-less had a doughnut. It was narrow but the same height as the factory 20's the truck came with.

Usually, when they are different, they fall under 3% different in rolling diameter. Under 3% and your good. Again, it's a spare tire for a reason though.

I kinda wondered about this, they look like a car tire.

I've seen them on new Silverado and F150s so it's not just Ram putting them on their trucks. I'm sure the major thing it has to do with fuel economy/cost.

Either way I'm getting rid of them asap.

Yes less weight and tread helps fuel economy. But also because our usage has changed many buyers are happy with them.
A more aggressive tire the more rocks and debris get thrown. Usually cost more because they are usually :LT's, more cords stronger sidewalls etc. But if you use your pickup as a truck: more than a pavement pounder they are what you need.

i'm not a good year fan but my 2007 came with them and the originals were still on it when i traded it in with about 42,000 miles. they were about done but got good wear and traction was pretty good

now have them on my 2013 and replaced the originals at 40,000 miles. i probably could have got another 5000 on them but had the $$$ and replaced them with the same thing from the local dodge dealer. they weren't my first choice as i was looking for cooped discover at3's but the good years were about $100 less and i had good luck with the last 2 sets

I think I'm going with Cooper Discoverer AT3s. I can get them for $750 shipped to my door from Treaddepot.com. My mechanic can mount/balance them for $100. Not bad for $850

I have been extremely happy with my AT3's so far, only 5k buy wearing well.

That's good to know, it seems most people are happy with them. Are you running the stock size? Did you lose any mpg with Coopers?

i may have to look into this. i've noticed terrible performance in the rain.

how many miles did you have before you traded them? i'm over 1600.

Discount will take them at most mileages, they check tread depth and go by that, mine was a demo so it had 700 miles when i traded them a few days after i bought the truck.

that's the spare you get with 20s. the tire itself is bigger tho and only something like 2% different then the stock 20s. from what i can tell that spare fits with room to spare so i really don't see any reason they couldn't have gave a full size spare

when i get new tires which is hopefully within the month i plan to also swap out the spare. only real issue i have is that here we get ***** on tires and 20s are about $400 a tire(before tax and other bs fees) so changing the spare is gonna bring my total to the $2500 range

I clocked 228k on my silverado and the spare has never hit the ground, unless you had a catastrophic failure then its not needed. I carry a 12volt compressor and a tire plug kit in case i get a nail. I wouldnt waste your money on a 20'' spare, but thats me.

Personally, if the 17" tire works as a spare I'd just keep it tucked under the truck and save the $400 until the thing ages out and needs to be replaced.

I'm 45 years old and I think I've used a spare tire maybe 3 times in my life. Shoot my car has a donut spare. It's looks nothing like the correct tires. It's just something to get you along until you can get your real tire fixed.

I had to use the 17 inch spare on my 14 and it worked for what i needed it for which was to get me to the shop to get my tire repaired. Even on the way over to the shop i never noticed a difference in drive ability or handling with the smaller rim size spare .i have the sra goodyears with 22000 and they still look and drive like new never had a problem with traction even in very heavy rain .that being said I'm not going to keep them for the winter not sure of the sra ability in the deep snow that we get in the northeast sometimes in the process of saving up for some duratracs before the snow flys

I went up 1 size to a 285/75/17. No noticeable change in mileage, speedo is off almost 1 mph.
