A couple of days ago I noticed that my 2015 Ram had clogged windshield washer sprayers. When I looked in the washer fluid reservoir I was shocked to see that what appears to be an algae like substance/guck was all over the inside of the reservoir. It looked like a swamp in there, I half expected to see tadpoles in the bottom. Using a pump drain, I flushed my system with fresh water around 10 times to get all of this junk out. The last flush I used white vinegar mixed with water. I have always used the green Rain X with bug remover and am convinced this stuff caused the issue. I'll be using the old school regular ass blue washer fluid from now on. NO MORE RAIN X!!!

Just check the temp ranges in yer area and get the right formulated Blue stuff. There are mixes that are made for 32F and others 0F, you just gotta read the bottle. I always get 0F and do have a 90% Isopropyl bottle of rubbing alcohol available if need to lower the temp more.

SOOOO many PPL here not pay attention and think heat and just grab the 32F off the shelf, and not happy when we do get temps in the 20's and all froze up, just a PSA from yer friendly BOIRD.

That rain x stuff can also mess up the low washer fluid sensor. I avoid it on my mopar vehicles. It doesnt seem to mess with my other vehicles so when my wife forgets and buys it i use it in my Ford.
I've used Rain X all season 2 in 1 -25 for over 20 years in various year Doge/Ram vehicles and to date I have yet to have any problems from it

It's overpriced and doesn't do any better at keeping the windshield clear then the old cheap blue washer fluid available at every gas station does.On a pitted/cracked windshield the old cheap blue stuff is tough to beat it doesn't smear

Used the bottled stuff you apply going back to the 80's (lazy ass uncle used it on the Suburban work truck instead of actually fixing the g0dd@mn wipers) and started using the orange stuff when it came out in every vehicle I had after that. Never once had an issue of any sort and that's across at least six vehicles.

Wife uses liquid laundry detergent in the clothes washer…and throws the empty jug in the trash.

I fill the empty jug with water and use it for free windshield washer fluid. It cleans the w/s very nicely.

In winter, I add a cup of de-natured alcohol purchased from the paint store or Home Depot, etc. to prevent it from freezing.

Cheap solution (pardon the pun)

I used the orange in my 3500 and it did the same as CamperMike mentioned... I started getting the low washer fluid warning. Ended up having to replace the sensor to solve it. Had a similar issue with it on my wife's old 2014 Expedition. I finally switched back to the plain ole blue stuff. Haven't had any problems since.

Same here, used on at least 6 vehicles (wife's included).

The green Rain-X seems to be OK, as long as you are taking a trip and using it up quickly. If it sits for too long it turns to glop. I usually just use the 0 degree blue stuff. I keep a bottle of cheap ammonia window cleaner in the truck. When you stop for gas squirt the windshield before you pump. Let it sit then wipe it off. The Ammonia will dissolve the bugs. Just don't put ammonia into the washer bottle since it will damage the rubber seals and hoses.

Been using this stuff for years and never had an issue. How does it cause it?

Any of the rain-X stuff causes my low fluid sensor to foul up. takes a few bottles of the regular stuff to get it playing nice again, it gets to the point where I just keep a spare full bottle and ignore the light and top up when it stops spraying. In 5 different Mopars 2002 - 2016

I've run the pink anti-bug rain-x stuff in the summer and never had the swap issue as the OP posted.

I've only used RainX for 20 plus years also. Haven't had any issues. I bought the winter version the last couple winters. Yes it's pricey, but I like the water beading effect. I've never used the bug and tar version.
Consider treating all your glass and side mirrors with Aquapel... this stuff etches itself and forms a true bond whereas rainx is a coating and smears to heck when using the wipers, especially when there is a lot of road film on the windshield, and the blades are older.

The other great thing about Aquapel is that the harder it's raining, and especially at highway cruising speeds, there is zero need to use ones wipers at all.

The Orange RainX clogged my suburban and Ram trucks. Might be ok if you use it all the time but all of mine were clogged up from that crap. Suburban still clogged, I will drain and do the alcohol for solvent--that is how I did the Ram unclog.

I've used Prestone Bug Wash for years and have very pleased with it. I live in mosquito country and Preston removes dead bugs very well.
