I've got a 2012 1500 Detroit Redwing's edition, and am about to do the big three upgrade and adding an optima yellow top 27, has anyone done this yet? If so, mind shooting some photos ?

I wouldn't use an optima, not worth the expense IMO and I have more returns on those than any other battery at the parts store I work at. Get a good AGM battery and it will last a lot longer than the Optima's will.

Well, I agree, but I got a brand new off the shelf optima for 120 bucks just by kinda sweet talking the manager at the local pep boys. The list on it was 275, and the girl said, oh boy that ones dusty and the only one I have, I'll let you have it for cost plus the 5 dollar core charge. Scooorrrree

Yeah that's a damn good deal, try deep cycle charging it before you drop it in helps bring them back to life a bit.

That's a really good deal, but I would still return it. You can buy a better battery for $120.
I have had all colors of Optimas and none of them last and their return policy is a joke.
Like Etroze said, I'd give it a decent charge before install, and Keep the charge up, cause when the charge starts to dip, it will not recover

I used to use Optimas, years ago. Now prefer XS Power if I need a real good battery.

I've used optima batteries always had good use out of then but that was before they were balt out. I'm wanting to run xs batteries but that way high for now. I get a big discount on interstate group31 battery's so that's what I'll be using for now

I had a 6volt red top in my 50 Chevy for years, at least 9 if I remember, never had a problem. I figured at the price point, I couldn't beat $ 120. I just really want to see if anyone has the big three done. Scotts2012ram, I'm definitely interested in your setup.

Im about to do the big 3 myself. I know how Im going to run the wires, but what is the best way to connect them to the battery with all the crap they have hanging off of the battery post? I dont see a way to get aftermarket terminals on there.

I bought negative and positive terminals from knukoncepts, with adapters to move the factory leads to the top of the terminal

Its using usually 1/0 gauge wiring from your alternator to your positive terminal of the battery, then 1/0 from the ground terminal to chassis and then engine ground 1/0 to frame. Helps lessen voltage drop

All depends really on how you wanna run it, I'd say so far, just guesstimating, I used about 7 feet

yellow tops are deep cycle and a lot of people buy them for every day driving, that is why they probably are getting returned as they are not a everyday starting battery. RED tops are a every day starting battery.

Could you post a pic of your connections at the battery?

Hardly ever sell a yellow top and its all Optima's that get returned not just one over the other. Its not a great battery like they were 10 years ago period.
