Gonna have to be opened.

I will still never understand why they didn't do black fog lights on the black package trucks, so if you find some let me know

Painting the reflector part of the fog housing will make make the somewhat useless.
I can't remember where I seen it, but someone did a mini projector conversion to the fog housing. Find something like that and paint them black.

I put tinted covers on mine but am looking for someone who has a set of fogs that they want to get rid of so I can try to do a "black housing" on the fogs to match my headlights. They vynil covers tint the lights too much so you don't even notice if they are on or off. So, I'm going to give this project a try when I find some lights.

Exactly.

The fog housing is so small there wouldn't really be any point to "blacking out" any of it anyways because it'd leave you with no useable reflective portion of the housing to project light.

I believe it was blackbetty who did the fog projector conversion. They look really good but for the 9-12's it's a big decision because the front bumper has to come off just to get the fog light out.

Hence why mine are still chrome :naughty:

I didn't know the bumper had to come off to get the actual fog light assembly out.... That just completely changed my mind on doing what I was thinking. The vynil covers look nice and all but like I said.... At night, I can't even tell if they are on or off.. I'm thinking of taking them off but I really like the tinted/blacked out look they produce. Decision decisions.....

Just put lamin-x on them. You'll maintain some light output and have them much darker. They make custom made films for our trucks.

If you go this route, do a wet install, it's much easier to position since you can't remove the light. The water under the film will evaporate in a few days.

Yea I swapped projectors into my fogs and blacked them out.

I wouldn't touch the OEM housings, bought cheap aftermarket replacements and opened them up, swapped cheap projectors in them and then swapped the OEMs out.

Here's my thread
http://www.ramforum.com/f41/my_14_ram_vertical_fog_light_projector_retrofit-71137/

Light output from the cheap projectors is considerable compared to the OEM reflector housings, being blacked out they are hid in the bumper and don't stick out compared to the reflective Stockers and don't glare to oncoming traffic like the stickers are known for with HIDs.

If u get the replacement housings u can take ur time retrofitting and then just spend the day taking the old ones out and then just replace them with the retrofitted ones and be done.
