Bought a week ago and frozen screen

I am so irritated, buy an $80k truck and have it 8 days and the screen freezes up. 2019 2500 CTD Limited with tow mirrors and surround camera.
Any advice on how to reboot or restart screen?

I live in a rural area and the closest dealer has 3 mechanics on vacation so they can’t get to it till next week. So I made an appt for the dealership 50+ miles away for tomorrow but thought someone may have some other things to try.

you could try pulling the battery cables and let it sit for a few minutes and see if it resets. maybe pulling the radio fuse would work too.

if that doesn't work, you could see if there is an update for it on the uconnect site? put in your vin and it should tell you. that may be needed to get it to work properly.

i did a quick look and it appears with newer radios there is no reset like there was with older ones (holding down certain buttons etc)

lol. ain't that the truth. my first house in calgary (considered to be very expensive place to live in canada at the time) cost me that in US dollars. lol. My boss drives a fully loaded F350 platinum. i think they are about that in US dollars. I said to him when he got it, "you're driving a house!" lol. but i ain't knocking those that can afford it. god bless em.

Everything is working except my hands free system for the phone. It will dial the call but then the microphone will go out meaning. I can hear the person on the other line but they can’t hear me. My wife said when she is on the other end it sounds like all of a sudden I put her on mute.

I have an appt at dealership for 9:00 am Tuesday.

Happened to mine a few days ago. Not sure what happened but it went away after about a minute or 2.

Took to dealership Wednesday a case is opened because they couldn’t find out what was wrong.
Got in it today to go for a ride in the country, load up cooler for picnic and nothing works. No sound from anything, radio, Bluetooth , cellphone.
I traded in a beautiful 2017 Power Wagon for this headache, I wish I had my power wagon back.

So next day [yesterday] get in radio and everything seems fine so load up the truck for trip to the mountains.
All is going well having a beautiful drive listening to radio and using nav to get through the mountains and all of a sudden screen goes black and we loose everything. We have to pull over and use wife’s cell phone to reach our destination.

2nd trip to dealer tomorrow for same thing, I looked up through www.nclemonlaw.org and they say if vehicle goes to shop 4 times for the same problem or stays in shop for more than 20 days it qualifies for lemon law proceedings.

As much as I love my truck tomorrow’s trip to the dealer will be twice in 6 days for the same problem so I guess if it happens a third time I will have to start searching for counsel to prepare for proceedings.

I love my truck and I hope they can fix it but I can’t/won’t tolerate a brand new truck with these major electronic issues.

Took truck to dealership today and a case has already been started last visit.
Tech contacted star and they contacted engineers, ultimate actions taken today was ECM reset and some kind of security gateway was reset.
I was told the problems with the newer builds is 12” radio is different so it won’t accept the latest software update.
I was informed a new update was in the works however no time frame could be given.
I was told the next time I had radio issues they wanted me to leave it so they could pull unit and check things in the dash???


The dealership I am working with is one of the most accommodating group I have ever dealt with.

Had truck in shop for the 3rd time today regarding black screen, frozen Navigation and blue tooth doesn’t work.

I was given a bulletin from the dealership that stated they don’t know how to fix it and may have a download end of the year.

Totally unacceptable, I contacted FCA and also contacted a lemon law attorney.

While it is a lousy solution....you could pull your negative cable from your battery. Let it sit 15 minutes and reconnect. Should be back in business.

These units are computers and unfortunately, they're not truly automotive tested and just like your laptop or cell phone, they need a reset every once in a while.

Once again, it's lousy but automakers are competing against each other to get the latest gadgets into their vehicles. People will literally trade a 1 year old vehicle because the new model has carplay or Android auto. Many people treat cars like cell phones today....I doubt it gets better.

Oh, if you do the battery trick, know that some options on your screen may not immediately show up. It will take a few minutes for those features to propagate.

I sincerely appreciate the empathy but when you buy a new truck and the brain of it ie... the giant 12” black spot in the dash doesn’t work half the time and the Bluetooth never works and FCA says “ Sorry deal with it Because we don’t know how to fix it and wait till end of 4th quarter is unacceptable “

Same issue here. Every Ram I have owned has had a variety of electrical issues. Just spent $55K on a 2020, hoping they finally resolved electrical issues. Apparently not. 1 month in and my 12” Screen is frozen again...2nd time this has happened. Previously the screen has randomly switched to rearview camera and gets hung up. Very frustrating.

Is that bulletin for real?? Their solution for a non-functional radio on an $80K truck is for the customer to wait for or initiate a sleep cycle? Hey FCA don't worry we have all day to wait around for the crappy radio to start working again. Didn't have anything better to do today or a job to get to. They should just replace it straight up.
