I recently installed low and high beam LED's from LASFit. The install went fine, but I occasionally get a brake lamp out warning in the dash. I purchased alfaobd and I made sure that all of the lights are LED. I still got the warning. The headlights work great with no flickering and I am otherwise very happy with them. What else could be the problem?

I followed the steps for alfaobd in this youtube video...

if your brake lights are fine, check the third brake light on the cab. When it goes out it will register as a brake light out.

I will check that one. It was replaced with an LED when I bought the truck. I'd be dissapointed if that was out already.

Mine go out once every 2 years maybe... it's pretty common for me at least

I replaced my bulbs with LED & set them using Alphaobd to set them to LED. I did that in 2017 and once each spring & fall I get the bulb out warning. It clears after driving for 20 -30 minutes and doesn't do it again until the next spring / fall. I'm used to it now.

I checked the third light... initially it wasn't lit. I pulled the bulb and reversed it. It then was partially lit. That explains the intermittent dash warning. I bought a replacement that I will install as soon as I have the time. It seems the bulb was on its way out.

Now I feel stupid for not checking what the warning message actually warned of! I thought for sure it was some conflict with the LED headlights that I just installed. What are the chances that a brake light bulb went out at the same time that installed new headlights?

I don’t know the odds of that happening but if I were to do the same job I’d put my odds of it happening at 90%.
