Ok guys, I am goin to have my new alpine type R 12's installed today in my new fox box.

My question is, do these speakers need a break in period? I've never done a break in period on any speakers before. But I don't want to screw these up. (too expensive to have to replace)

I can't imagine a speaker having a break in. Don't know how you'd do that.

yes and no. The break in period on subs is to let the glues settle in a heat/cool cycle. So expect some odd smells while you listen to them. I say listen to them under moderate levels for a day or two, then rock on. Gain settings of course should be set with an O-scope , but that pertains to any amplifier setting, not just new.

Yup, some also need to break in to loosen the suspension up for optimal SQ, mainly when sealed enclosure is used.

subs, yes there is a break in period, but it doesn't take long, my kicker cvt 10s took a little under a day, but i wasn't driving that much, but put on the bass med/hi and let that go for a little bit.

speakers, yeas, but not nearly as long. i have sony xplod speaskers and as you listen to music, it gradually gets louder. doesn't sound like it, but i promise it does.

you should be done breaking everything in about a hour - 2 hours tops.

best of luck

the spider in all subs when new are stiff which makes the sub need more power to move the sub once broken in and amp is set right the sub will hit harder using less power than a new one if to much power when new voice coil heats up because of working to hard which in return burns out the voice coil, dont run at max until sub completly broke in, time is different on all subs, high end copitition subs can take days of continious play to properly brake in, the type r alpine 2-5 hours should be good, run for 20min let cool off run for 30 let cool off and so on, most people dont break in new subs and dont have a problem i love serious bass and push my equipment to the max so i always break mine in

Amps aren't needed for break in, just subwoofers. No need on mids and coax either.
