I have a 2015 5.7 that when ever it first starts up and I put it into drive it will buck when it shifts from usually 1st to 2nd gear driving down the road and kind of runs funky. That's the only time that it does that. Once it warms up it's usually fine except that it also will buck when starting to slow down and come to stop, almost when it comes to a complete stop at a light. The motor has 34K miles on it, I bought it with 31K on it and the only thing that I've done is replace the air filter and change the oil to RL 5w-30 but this issue was happening before (did not do this or notice when I test drove it before purchase). It is a CPO which was one reason why I bought it and I took it in within the first 2 weeks of owning it and they said they didn't find anything wrong with it. They said they checked the computer and inspected it. I have paper work at home and I can post what they exactly said about it. I can also suction cup my GoPro to the side of my truck at first start to show / hear whats going on with it. The carfax also showed that it had its left rear axle replaced at some point before not sure if that's playing a part in this or not. The truck was a lease and was owned in Colorado before and is now in Arizona. Has anyone ever had an issue like this before or have an idea of whats going on?

Thanks for any input

Leave it with at the dealer the night before, Show up and take them for a test drive while it is cold so they can see. Maybe then they will try and diagnose it, almost sounds like the transmission or Torque converter.
Does the RPM jump when it bucks? As in is the motor reving? Like it’s getting fuel and firing when it shouldn’t be?

That's a good idea I'll have to give that a try. It does it even when I drive to the store and come back out and start it up and go into drive. I always let it warm up and idle at start up as well. The only time I've noticed that it doesn't do it so drastic is when I've let it idle for 4-5 minutes. I'll probably take it in and maybe go test drive a truck or two then go to the shop about mine and show them what's going on.

Mine does that every once and a while since I bought it new, 2017 with 10,500 now. And my wife’s 2015 grand Cherokee with the 8 speed does it too but only the first shift from 1st to 2nd I figured it’s normal since both my 8 speeds do it

Try pausing in neutral for a second before shifting into drive. I would notice mine shift funny sometimes on the first 1-2 shift. Now that I pause in neutral for a second, I don't notice it "shifting funny" the first time. The rest of the day there is no problems, even if I just put it straight into drive(no pause).

Hmm maybe it’s a “normal ish” thing then. Mine just usually does it more often then I’d like so thought I’d see if it was a common theme across the 8 speed and it might be

I’ll give that a try tomorrow and report back! Thanks for the tip

Following. My 2009 with 85k started doing similar things a few weeks ago.

Definitely leave it at dealer like Ratket suggested and be there to test drive it cold. Whatever it is you want to resove it while they are paying the bill. It could be the torque converter locking too early.

My 2017 shifts fine so I would recommend getting the dealer involved while it's under warranty. Yours may just need an update on the trans firmware.

I tried putting it into neutral today and let it stay there for a minute before shifting into drive and it still gave me that first buck when shifting pretty aggressively today. I'll be taking it in this week when I can plan it out getting there and back and I'll keep it updated with results

Might as well ask them to check the fluid level as well. It could very well be the software as some of the OE tranny calibration's shifted better than others with my truck, but nothing shifted as good as the custom TCM tune does.

Copy that, I appreciate the advice. The more info going into it the better

Hopefully they know the proper procedure to check the fluid-

My 2018 shifts wonderfully with no hiccups. Definitely not normal

I think its normal, if I don’t let it warm up more than 2 minutes it does it once and it’s gone. It’s done it from day one. If I remote start it and take off 5 minutes later it doesn’t do it. Trannys don’t like cold oil. And the odds of my ram, my wife’s jeep and my dads 2018 ram having the same tranny issue is pretty slim imho. If you wanna waste time and go to the dealer go ahead, and if there is a update for the tranny then i retract my statement and I will go and have mine updated lol

I've thought it could be possibly the cold causing it but I can't exactly pinpoint that it is or isn't. AZ winter is a good one and lately the warmest temp is about 48 degrees in the morning when I leave or about 38 when I leave at night.

My truck has done this from day 1. It always happens on the first shift of the day or after it's been sitting longer than 6 hours. I thought about taking it in to get reflashed but have read that'***** or miss with some then developing the harsh 2-1 down shift after the flash. I think it's normal as I have read about this before and just take it easy for that first shift in the morning. Also, I have a TCM tune and it made no difference.
