I wills ay this and you may not like it. $600 is not gonna cut it. You will need to get a Can-Bus adaptor and those things can cost upwards of $200 themselves depending on what system your truck originally had in it. Go to crutchfield and see what they have there.

I agree, check out Crutchfield as with most of their head units, the adapters are either included, or they are reduced in cost. I have dealt with them many times over the years, and they have never failed to take care of my needs.

You can go local for amps speakers, but I will warn you: if you buy cheap you will be very disappointed. Get quality gear and it will last for a long time.

Kicker, Polk audio, Kentwood, and Jensen all have some very good quality speakers. But even then a complete set of speakers will run $200+, and that does not include the subwoofer. Amps are completely different beast. If you get a high power head unit then you can forego your main speaker amp. The Kentwood head units all put out more than enough power. As far as the sub goes 90% of head units come with pre-amp outputs for a subwoofer amp at least. Depending upon the sub you get will determine how much power you will need to push it without distortion. Look at the peak power of the speaker then get an amp that has 10% peak power over that. Anything less and you might over drive the amp causing it to either burn up or go into protect mode, neither are nice.

Buy quality audio equipment the first time, it might be a bit more expensive but in the long run it is worth the cost. Install kits are available from many stores even Walmart has them. Just make sure to get one that is rated for the amp you will be using.

I have a 2007 1500 and I didn't know I needed a can bus. Head unit will be the first thing I change along with door speakers. I guess I will have to increase my budget or do it piece by piece.

In 2006 all Dodge trucks went Can-Bus. Very annoying to say the least. Here is where you should get the adaptor: iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future

And a link to the area of their sight for the 07's:

Pac-Audio.com Product Search | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future

Now when you look at those on the page above you will need to get the proper one for your truck. Read the descriptions completely. This is the one for the base model truck with the normal radio with no factory amp:
Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future

Ok to check and see if you do not have an amp you will need to do a couple things: get a flashlight, remove the glove box, look up towards the radio above where the glove box was. The amp for the upgraded systems is normally there and cannot be missed. They also stick the navigation system under there also so you will need to know which radio you have.

Shoot are you gonna replace the head unit completely?? If so then go this route: Kenwood Excelon KDC-X397 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

If you can find one of those. That is the same unit that I have in my truck. It has 3 sets or pre-amp outputs, plus a built in high output 4 channel amp that outputs 22 watts rms and 50 peak PER CHANNEL.

Looks like Amazon ahs it for a steal: http://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KDC-X397-eXcelon-In-Dash-Receiver/dp/B00ASYD5PA

I am not running the front nor rear rca outputs but do have a 1500 watt mono block driving a Kicker 10 inch competition sub. Talk about kidney massage.

I still need to figure out what can-bus adapter I need for my truck. My truck is in Florida while I am in the Indian Ocean.
