Bye bye 3.21

I finally picked up a 3.92 to replace my 3.21. I got them for really cheap since they came out of a truck with less than 1000 miles. I really hope this transforms my 6spd truck into more of a beast.

If it woulda came with 3.55 i woulda left it alone.

You really think so? Some say my muffler delete is killing my low end also.

Do you have a programmer to update the computer to 3.92s? If not you'll want one of some sorts to get your shifts points back in line. I swapped from 3.55 to 4.56 on my 06 f150 and that thing was awesome low end.

Im pretty sure you only to correct for tire size changes on these trucks.

Not likely... if you deleted the cats then yes maybe, but not just a muffler

Should be a hoss. But I dont get why everyone hates on the 3.21. My dads new 2014 Ram is a 3.21 and that thing moves compared to my Sierra 5.3 with 3.42 gears.

I should hope so, you're talking a ~50HP difference and considerably taller 1st gear. They're definitely not slugs with 3.21s... but they're rockets with 3.92s They also tend to hunt for gears on the slightest incline on highway. I have 3.92s and I'm happy with them, but I don't hate the 3.21. They have their purpose

I like mine. I'm getting 23 mpg hand calculated. I don't have a problem with hunting gears. Might drop one every now and then. Pulls my camper just fine. Good luck with it. I have the 3.21's

Please, Please, Please, post how the swap went. Pics and alot of detail would be so appreciated. I have the 3:21's and have been itching for someone to report on the swap. I have a 2014 Ram and have posted about the desire to swap to 3:92's a couple times now. My dealers service department is no help at all and just tells me it is not recommended but wont really tell me why. I am sure that the 3:21's do have there place and I respect that but that place is not with me! Its my mistake for not paying attention when I bought the truck and I accept that. I just want to know what is involved with this swap so that I can decide if I am going to make the swap or learn an expensive lesson when I trade it in for the one I want.

He probably has a 8spd. Mine is a 6spd and trust me 3.21 is the worst thing about my truck.

You guys are really going to like your truck a whole lot better with 3.92s.

If 4.10s don't cost any more, I highly recommend going 4.10. With the 5/6, 4.10s, and stock sized tires, @ 70 mph, I'm turning just 2000 rpm. First gear has some real muscle. Now the engine and tranny are very happy. Heck. It even sounds better.
