Will be getting a camshaft here soon, so I want to know everything there is to know. Basically, what do they do exactly, what do the numbers mean in relation to what the camshaft outputs, and the lope? Also, what would be a good choice for torque and passing power?

Eddie Sam did your headers right? If so get with him on cam install. Lope doesnt always mean power on these things also sadly.

I know the lope doesn't always mean power. But I don't want some crazy lope. Not looking for that. :). Want to be able to know what the cam shaft will do and avoid that.

What cam are you going with? That would be able to tell you more about what to expect and go from there

Comp 260 is popular in quad cabs, could do crazy spartan or a use krc210 just depends on tuning. Being an 08 you have the cylinders that cut out correct? You will also need valve springs, pushrods, cam bolt, crank bolt, new lifters for starters. The cam is going to have the valves opening and closing at diff times then stock also with diff power bands.

I turned off the MDS with my diablo. I plan on getting it full custom tuned when I get the camshaft installed. I know I need the 6.1 pushrods and springs.

there is a neat video on this page, you can watch a normal cam, then a performance cam.

HowStuffWorks "How Camshafts Work"

basically the numbers dictate how long the valves are open (duration).

The Crazy Spartan is supposed to be MDS Freindly. I have one on 114 LSA that I just pulled from my truck and am going to stick in my 05 Magnum and run it on a custom Tune CAI and Shorties. i know a fellow that has one in a SC on 112 LSA and is running good but he went the SC Route with a PSC1-003 and upped his Idle.

I heard of Comp Cams making a new Cam for MDS which I think is called the HP 260 but am not sure, if I didn't have the Crazy I would go after that one for sure for my Car. Do the Cam yourself or with another Mopar freak, its not that difficult (I have 3 under my Belt).

Its not that hard just tedious and does require a few tools not everyone will have. Danny were you talking about Greg's truck? Been speaking to him on and off bout how his is doing being an 03. Had me curious seeing were running both the same cam him just lighter and lowered.

Doesn't switching cam change you max rpm's of the motor???

Droid Incredible 2 on the move!!!

It changes the powerband at which max hp/tq are created, some will give you a higher hp/tq curve at a lower rpm and others will give it to you at a higher rpm. With a tuner you can adjust the rev limiter and wot shift points to a higher rpm (with certain years) to take advantage of the cams power curve.

Talk to Sam (Sawcut64) and see what he would do an install for you for.

U need to remove those msd lifters!

NOT really necessary. Still have mine in the truck and eventually they settled down and stopped ticking. When I get around to installing the 5.7 PCM, I will add the harness connections for MDS to run in MDS mode. Will probably only run SC 91 and a PSC-1, running with MDS enabled.

My truck has seen 6,800 rpm many times with the Sidewinder and MDS lifters in place.

At the track on a 45*F day, 200ft DA, on 20s but otherwise in track trim

Just a suggestion for racing,:********:

Well knowing that Randy just pulled his out about a year ago and made literally hundreds of passes on his MDS lifters, made me hesitant to remove the heads and swap lifters. Not to mention my future exhaust setup will be built around using the MDS system which will be a benifit with my 4.56 gears and APS ~3,000 stall converter.

The sidewinder really isnt "that" agressive or big of a cam though. Also why are you shifting it at 6800rpm+? thought that cam started loosing power around 5800-6200, or are you spraying it as well?

That cam has a stupid flat power curve on the top. Pulls past 6,500 like nobody's business. I can cut 2 tenths off my 1/8 mile time by holding my 1-2 and 2-3 shift out to 6,700 vs 6,200 drive shifts.

I am running NA. 13.592 @ 98.20 on a 1.98s 60' on the street 20s weighing in at 5,330 lbs. Its getting it for having stock heads and being on the street rubber. I took it out on 26" drag radials and my 8.63 1/8 mile pass turned into a 8.527 with a similar 60', truck was just making too much torque for that size drag radial to be of much benifit.
