wow, lots of options here. you guys are great! so would the comp 268 be a good choice for a 4x with 35" tires. I want to add headers but have to check what the damn ca epa allows as far as street legal exhaust. so i can change cam without pulling the heads thats great! for some reason i though i read you couldnt. ive changed cams in small block chevys before the hemi 5.7 is all new to me. bought the ram used with 36k in 06 and has treated me good. 3/4 ton. lots of offroading in ca deer hunting and having fun. paid her off so want to do her right! By the what does LSA stand for?

268 is more of a top end cam, I would not run it lifted 3/4 ton 4x4. LSA is lope separation angle. Wider LSA, typically easier to tune, and smoother idle.

Agreed for a 4x4 lifted on 35s you want a torquier cam. The 268 builds power around the 2800-3000rpm mark. You want something much lower than that.

From that list these would be your best choices for your app:

comp 260 208/212 522/525 113
hhp 260 209/213 521/524 114+4
crazy jay 209/214 545/556 112
Sidewinder 212/212 525/525 114+4
crazy spartan 214/214 556/556 115

The Sidewinder is hit and miss on being able to run on a canned tune.

Convert, for now.

Pretty sure the comp 268 has 216/220 @.050. It also has a lot more lift during the duration.

maybe so, was commenting on his cam card.

The Lsa is gonna be the prob on the current cam like stated. That being said your truck MIGHT run it... just hard to say and cant fall back on to a custom tuner. If its not your every day truck ya could always toss it in and see what ya get. After you do the springs the first time, which takes the most time all you will have to do is pull the front cover and the rocker arms and pushrods for the change over if it wont run right.

I love this thread! All about HP. OK , So Where do i find the sheet that explains all the abbreviations??? LOL.,..i get alot of them are tuners right?
SC=super chips
SCT=?
Cannned Tune? A programmed plug in chip?
CMR-?
DSP-?
PSC1-003 cam tuner -?

considering the comp 260 or the crazy jay. luckily for now its not my daily driver, so i could try the cam that is installed. just dont want extra work, i have enough as it is. is there a thread about the actual cam swap? how do you pull the cam without pulling the lifters? have most mechanics tools, what special ones are required? KEEP ON TRUCKIN!!! thanks to all!!!

SC= Superchips Tuner, comes pre loaded with canned tunes, no custom tuning available with it but it has trans support for the 04's on up
SCT= Hand held custom tuner, only supports custom tunes though, no preloaded tunes
Cannned Tune = Tunes pre-loaded onto a hand held tuner
CMR = Custom Tune for the DSP
DSP = Diablo Sport Predator - Hand held tuner, comes preloaded with canned tunes but has the ability to custom tune the engine and on some years the trans
PSC1 = Device used to dial in a tune if you do not have a hand held tuner

For the cam, if you cant tune it, it will do more harm than good. If I were you, I would get in touch with HemiFever (google his website) and tell him the specs on the cam and see if he thinks it can run without a tune or if he can do something to tune it for you. There are other tuners out there but he does know quite a bit about dialing them in

This thread got a lot bigger than I ever expected. Lol. Love the info though. To answer some of your acronyms.

SCT is another type of tuner that stacks with the super chips.
Canned tune is a general tune already put on the tuner when purchased. Thus no need to write a tune through custom tuning.
And DSP is Diablo Sport Predator. It's another programmer. And the one most who do big engine mods or want custom tuning use. As it has the ability to load in outside written tunes.

Alright, time to bring this thread up again. Hope everyone is doing well. I probably should have started my own thread instead of jacking Blackedouthemi's but all the info is here already so-I decided to go with the cam the engine builder put in and keep my fingers crossed. Money is tight so it took a while to get everything together. Just fired her up for the first time last night. Cranked her over with the fuel line disconnected in order to build the oil pressure for the first start. Connected the fuel line, cranked her again and after about three complete revolutions she fires right up. I cant beleive it. It sounds good, let it idle for a couple minutes, checking for leaks and such, shut her down to recheck fluids. Go to restart and now wont start unless I am holding the pedal down. Once fired I have to to keep tapping the pedal to get her to run at all. I can get it to run at 2000 rpm holding the pedal down but if I let it fall below 2000 it wants to stall. As far as I know the computer and tune is all stock. Other than the previoius info mentioned on the truck, I installed some gibson shorty headers and there tri y.
As far as disabling the stock computer to reboot., can you just disconnect the negative side battery cable or do you need to disconnect the positive?

Time to invest in some tuners? Has anything new come out for the 03's?

Thanks for any info...
