Hey y’all,

Banging my head against the wall with this. Have a 2014 Ram with the ZF 8hp70. Trying to do a quicklearn on it because I’m getting some rough wacky shifts. Tried multiple times with two different scanner tools (Vlinker FS and OBDlink Mx+) and it still won’t perform the quicklearn. I made sure to perform it precisely as described. Fluid temp above 140, battery voltage - everything is as it should be and I keep getting the same error. Using both Appcar DiagFCA AND alfaOBD program.

Thought it might be the aftermarket remote start device but I unplugged that and connected straight to factory OBD port.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you!IMG_8478.jpegIMG_8480.jpeg

While I'm not familiar with the transmission re-learn processes as I've never had to do one.

However, have you taken it out and driven it like you stole it lately?

The adaptive learning will put you in granny-mode if you haven't properly fleeced your HEMI and its transmission on a semi-regular basis.

Daily driving and not properly flogging your HEMI and its transmission on a semi-regular basis can almost net you a limp-mode kind of feeling.

The other part of this equation is:
When is the last time you checked the transmission fluid level?
When is the last time you had the transmission fluid and filter changed?

This also may the timing you consider installing the @caulk04 transmission cooler bypass valve to drop those trans temps in the 30C range.

Thank you for your reply! Yes, drove it like I stole it and I’m still getting some super harsh and jerky shifts. I know these trucks like to be driven hard and adapt as time goes on but 1st to 2nd up shift is unbelievably rough. Sometimes when accelerating from a coast (around 20-30mph) the whole truck will do a “hiccup” kinda thing. It feels really bad. Def not normal. And it’s only got 120k miles on it.

It shifts silky smooth a lot of the time so that’s what seems to indicate its a software issue.

Changed transmission fluid and filter @ 100k miles. Did multiple drain and fills, following the “lifting the back tires off the ground 9 inches” procedure very carefully.

Disconnect BOTH battery cables. Get a test light (incandescent) and put it between the cable ends, securely. Leave it for TEN MINUTES ONLY... Reconnect the battery and go drive the truck conservatively for a while (10-15 minutes) then return to your normal driving.
