Carbon fiber catch can

The 6.4's in the cars uses an external PCV system very similiar to the trucks 5.7 set-up Nick. Most catch cans for a truck 5.7 and a cars 6.4 will interchange. This is my Moroso can on the wifes 6.4 Challenger,****** pic,but you can sort of see how it and a 5.7 trucks set-up are very similiar.Chads working on a catch can that would interchange between those 2 set-ups.I don't think there's an off the shelf set-up for a 6.4 truck engine,but a couple of guys have jury-rigged a catch can set-up onto their 5.7's when they put the 6.4 truck intake onto a 5.7 truck engine.It entails some drilling and tapping of the composite intake to do though. I think Crazy Kid did it on here,and put pic's up of how he did it

I have a few engine decorated covers I'm working on also . I'm trying to find ways to lighten up your vehicle without losing the cosmetics and with carbon fiber its possible and it looks sweet on your vehicle.

I've just been approached by an outfit asking me if i thought there'd be any interest in a carbon fiber catch can if it's competively priced with the other popular catch cans available.
Would any of you guys be interested in such a catch can? I've already told them to make sure it has the capability of using a 1/4 turn ball valve for draining,and to make it so that it'll bolt onto a cool part of the engine bay,preferably away from the engine and rad heat.

Why would I want a Catch can on my 5.7? Its not a GDI and my understanding is those engines are mainly the ones that need one.

I just threw a Moroso on mine for one reason, I started a new job 1.7 miles from home. I'm using it to help extend my oil life by catching water. Not a foolproof answer, but I know from past experience it will help.

I plan on getting one, but am all kinds of not sure which one to get. I don't want to get a cheap one that doesn't perform well (keep out contaminants) but don't need to get a really expensive one if a cheaper one will work as well. I do like the billet one as well as the look.

I don't think the carbon will melt... if its stable to 250-300*F it will be fine in the engine bay which carbon is very capable to doing. You know they make carbon fiber intake manifolds, valve covers and other engine components!

I would like to see options so different levels. I'm actually in the market for one but more of a PCV version for a C3 vette that's getting a LS Swap. Maybe make it so top part can be purchased separately with different things like a threaded boss for a filter or a plug so you can run it for PCV or as a catch can. some people like AN fittings But I like the serviceability or the ability to change the fittings if I change things up so I would prefer NPT or AN female threads on the can. It would of course need baffles for Oil/air separating depending on the version you get. Mounting bracket could be adjustable on the can top probably a bracket with slots so you can fine tune placement of the ports and where its mounted.

It would be interesting to see how they would make it, the threaded areas will increase the costs substantially as they would need to epoxy in probably billet bungs for fittings and the canister sealing. I think a nicer version of a mason jar lid would make the process cheaper and easier to remove the bottom if we were talking PCV style. One thing I have issue with is breaking my Diablo catch can on my Ram free after a thousand or so miles lol... gotta get the rubber oil filter strap remover out but its also due to how close it is to the cylinder head. I run the Diablo on my Ram and a Moroso on my boosted Firebird and both work well.

Here is the simple explanation. Back in the day... Engines had breathers.. Many times the vent hose went to a fiber filter in the air cleaner. Remember those oil soaked filters clipped in the ring of the air cleaner? Many times we would replace those with press in canisters. Fast forward. In an effort to clean up emissions and pollutants, it became required that crankcase systems become closed. So vented crankcase gasses now recirculate to the intake stream. So, the catch can takes the place of those old fashion filters by cleaning the gasses and condensing out the oil and moisture, stopping them from entering in the intake. They need to be serviced and cleaned, normally at each oil change. The difference between the cheapo ones and the more costly billet ones is that serviceability. I always liked the fact that the name brand "Billet" ones that I have used have a metal mesh for the filter that is very serviceable and will last basically forever.

Chad sent me a video of some of his testing on the carbon fibre can,as i was questioning him about how strong or brittle it was,the video pretty well answered my questions,i'm not sure i'd even try this with my Moroso aluminium cans,lol
