Thanks for doing this thread, now we know with proof this issue is also in 5.7's and it seams to be trucks made in this period 2015-2018. Plus, I wonder if they ever fixed it because it seams like it takes 5-7 years to reveal itself, so we don't even know if this is also prevalent in 5 gens yet. Seams like they are literally attempting to make trucks last a decade at best? Once they start hanging particulate filters on these 5'7s, buckle your seat dorothy cause kansas is going byby.

Jay Pan man, Shaken Law wouldn't fly here, so they found a way around it, result is the same suckers pay too much for trucks that have no chance at lasting like other generation trucks did.
You're welcome. Glad I could contribute something that might help someone else down the road.

I was shocked to find it in my 5.7, but the amount I have must not be alot because my water pump and heater core are OE (knock on wood). 196k miles is pretty darn good.

Is it possible that the sand issue is what is killing lifters and eating cams in our Hemi engines?

Yeah I hear you, it scared me the first time it happened. And fun fact the temp sensor does NOT read air correctly because once the bubble went thru the jiggle pin the temp on the EVIC went from 189 to 225 in about 2 seconds.

Scared the sh it out of me lol

Multiple drain and fills will do the exact same thing it will just take longer. The block drain even on the passengers side is a pain to get to and theres no way it's not going to make a mess.
That's almost exactly what happened to me. Maybe pulling the coolant temp sensor would help that.

I've been thinking about this possibility as well. It stands to reason if it's in the coolant passages it would be everywhere else as well.

One of the many reasons I do a 250-500 mile oil change on every new vehicle I've owned.

I dont think so as lifter issue is very well documented early 4 gen where never heard of this sand issue. Plus, in every filter I cut open I have not seen any sand. The cooling system is more forgiving with sand then the engine, I doubt if there was that much sand in an issue it would last at all.

@Ken226, I sure am glad those clips had extra, I went a little too far with the file and they all were loose, ended up replacing just the upper ones.

Turns out I broke all 4 of the original clips.

Oh and it helps to take out the trim ring on the inside of the grille 1st....lol.

Those clips are the S-H-I-Z-N-I-T (damn censors), thank you again.

The oil passages are for the most part drilled, while the cooling passages are cast into the block when it's poured into the sand molds. The engines wouldn't make it around the block if there was sand in the oil passages,as it'd wipe out the crank bearings almost instantly. Doubtful the casting sand issue in the cooling passages also applies to the oil passages

I guess it just means the engine mfr. has QC issues.

At the company I work for, the parts we make for automotive fell under the ISO 9001 standards, and they would bust our balls if they weren't up to spec.

Guess those that make the block and head didn't have the same standards, but most likely, they just didn't care.

Ken said he had to lightly file them to fit, I filed them too heavy, and they were loose.....lol. So I only have 2 left.

You will have to remove the top inner trim from the inside of the grille, there's like 8 or 10 screws, 9mm.

The 2 bottom clips, I stuck a small flat screwdriver in to bend the locking clips, then I could lift it enough to clip it apart to remove it.

I might just order another package, just in case

I'm thinking they should of had more tequila and used it for flushing the blocks :Big Laugh:
Probably would've done a good job, too. Certainly couldn't have done any worse than the person at the cleaning station.

Out of 4, I had to use the file on 2.

And only 2 or 3 strokes each tab, with a tiny pattern file.

Yeah, I was a little too harsh....lol

The clips were a blessing, and cheap, too.

Yea, a couple years ago I figured out that most of the little plastic fasteners used all over out trucks are pretty generic and fit tons of other brands of car.

Thant being the case, they can be bought on Amazon for super cheap. I keep lots of different ones on-hand. the 1/4" christmas tree style that secure the upper radiator cover are super common and used everywhere. They're good to have on-hand too:

I actually ran out a few weeks ago and had to order more. I replaced the windshield washer spray nozzles and had to take down the insulated hood liner. It uses quite a few of them.

When I replaced my water pump, the lower radiator shroud cover took 6, i think.
