Seems like a good idea, but wouldn’t they be able to cut through the cable as well?
Heck, maybe eventually. Might be too much work, who knows, just an option I saw (there is the universal and the super option, looks like cable density). Maybe hook up a 50,000 amp old coil to it so they get shocked when touch. I made the mistake of working on a 1976 Ford Wagon in the snow, and closed that circuit, it was not a joy, LOL;.

ADDED: U not gonna cut through the thicker cable with a saws all, that's for sure. They just using battery operated saws all and/or hack saws around here, but everybody here owns a "bullet launcher", so maybe just a lil different.

Now that would be entertainment to watch someone getting zapped while trying to steal your stuff :waytogo:

I was thinking as you that it would create more work, so they might just move on to the next.

Having a lifted truck does aid them in having access.

I remember seeing a video of of a guy jacking up a car to steal the cats, and the jack failed…… that’s karma.

Some cities are already doing this in California

If passed, the bill would combat the increased theft of catalytic converters with three items:

  1. Require all new and used car dealerships to permanently engrave the car’s vehicle identification number onto the converter.
  2. Metal recyclers will only be allowed to buy a catalytic converters with a visible and untampered VIN, they must keep detailed records of who sold them, and make those records available to law enforcement.
  3. Increase the fines and jail time for those buying, selling or possessing a stolen catalytic converter.
  4. “The bottom line is that California is the number one in the nation for catalytic converter thefts,” said Senator Brian Jones
Chula Vista, down close to the Mexico US Border has already bought an engraver to start doing it, I heard that San Diego may do the same.

It will take forever to etch 2 million automobiles
Ya wouldn't think it but Missouri is in the top ten. That's pretty funny knowing that about Missouri.

The 1st part of the NJ emissions is a visual check for the cats using a mirror on a pole. Also an oxygen sensor code would be thrown for the post cat sensor in the absence of the cats.
Had my 2013 Charger inspected at Rahway this past August. No mirror walk around, just plugged into port & read the screen. Passed no problem.
And BTW, I have NO mufflers or resonators, just straight pipes from the cats back. Loud as hell inside the cavernous inspection station!

My cat is there but nothing inside. Completely hollow more like a way to quiet my 5inch exhaust down a bit.

I’m sorry to hear that. Just this week, my daughter told me that she parked at work (in downtown SLC), and there was one lifted truck in the parking lot next to her A4, and they cut the cats off the lifted truck in the middle of the day….unbelievable!

Do you really think someone is going to use their real ID and information to commit a crime? I guess if there was a law to leave your name and info to rob a bank we could catch the crooks faster. About the same as a no gun zone, criminals don't obey signs or laws.

Sorry to hear, as it is happening everywhere as happened to my dads fleet over the weekend on camera hooded sweatshirt and mask. But was stupid to have his car in the view of the camera so the police caught him. But damage was done and my dad has to pay to fix it as the criminal calls poverty!

Yes correct, he will get reimbursed but needs to get the fleet back on the road so needs to pay as insurance is slow to pay.

Maybe times have changed. I was living in NJ when they got rid of safety inspections. They never looked on my 4" lifted Jeep with 35" rock crawling tires that stuck out 4"-6" from the fenders (I had tube fenders in the front). I went to the Lodi inspection facility, all I did was drive up to the facility, they looked for a check engine light, if none, then plugged into the ODBII port and I was on my way.

My jeep set every red flag, lifted 4" suspension 1.25" body lift, 5" greater tire size than OEM (30"), full roll cage, 5 point harness with aftermarket suspension seats (still had the factory 3 point), HID headlights, and shorty front bumper that didn't cover any part of the tires. I used to pay to get it inspected, until they got rid of safety, then I went back to the Lodi station and for the next 3 years (until I moved to NY) they never even looked under the jeep.

The jeep I'm talking about:

Haven't been to an inspection station in many years. My '17 Ram didn't require it until this year since new vehicles get a 4 year sticker. My wife's car is a '19 Rav 4 so the same there so they may have stopped the mirror inspection or some stations may be lax on using them. So you still have cats therefore no codes from the absence of them.

They only check gas cap & OBD port for several years now. I remember when they lifted the front end to check for play (with you still in it!) and the short-lived dyno fiasco.

I remember that, the vibration check, it actually worked. 20 years ago my sons car failed. I brought it home & checked it out. Turns out one of the inner tie rods on the rack & pinion was shot.

I had the same thought when gas prices went up, thieves started drilling holes in peoples tanks and draining the fuel.
I have a 30 gallon tank covered only with a heat shield and the truck is lifted "4, It would be a little too easy for them.
I would be curious if anyone has made their own shields / skid plates for the underbody.
If you have to unbolt / cut a plate of steel to before you can even see what's behind it I doubt anyone would waste their time.
Unless its a Mad Max situation and I'm the last one with fuel.. :biggun:
Come get some then!
