Yeah I ended up with about 3.5 liters coming out (dont judge me on the metric ****, it's what was on the can I poured into) lol.

Anyway. First thing. I was pretty disappointed at the color of the fluid that came out. My old 1500 got its first diff service at 100k. And the fluid didnt look half as bad.

Next thing. There is a zip tie in the diff holding a group of wires... they didnt even trim the dang zip tie. So as I was putting the cover on, it got between the gasket and housing. Just a PSA for anyone else that does this.

Other than that. All went well. I just refilled it till it started weeping out. Then twisted up a paper towel and let it absorb some excess to get it just below the plug.

Aside from one of my cichlids being viauously attacked while I was working hahaha. 6427303e31fa70aa96f6516c628c9219.jpga98ee7e98fd21988313264a18aa628b6.jpgc8e52246d4e3ec57161ec3429e4e6750.jpg319ae69455f85c5428778755edd75943.jpg

Say a prayer. He passed. Man he got tore up so bad. Tried to get him in a quarantine tank with some "medicine" and warmth. But it's a no go. Lol

I don't have a power wagon but there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable folks on this thread so I'm posting here. I have a 2020 Ram 3500 4x4, Hemi, SRW, 4.10 gears and plan to change the rear diff oil based on what I'm seeing here. Plan to use Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 (Product Code SVGPK-EA). Do I need an additive for the LSD like Amsoil Slip Lok? I'm not sure what I have in the rear end of this truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I definitely don't want to get this wrong.

Google Chrsyler VIN tool, or finder. Type your VIN in there, and see all of your options. That was, you can see if you have an LSD.

Other than that. Do you tow a lot? i would think the 3500 would ask for 75W-140 if you tow a lot.

I believe the 2500/3500 both have the helical type LSD from AAM which does not need an fluid additive. The commercial 4500/5500 type trucks go to a Dana with clutch packs which does require it.

I don't tow anything. Build sheet says 11.5" axle with anti-spin. I believe I have an AAM 11.5" 14 bolt rear axle with a TracRite GT Helical LSD (per AAM website - no friction additives are needed). Hoping someone can confirm my interpretation.

Assuming I'm correct and an additive is not require, is it ok to use an oil like Red Line that contains "additional friction modifiers"?

I have a nice little 2,000 mile trip coming up over the Christmas holiday so I'll be tackling this in the next week or so.

Thanks to all who have contributed!

Like @G. Mcpherson said, it won't hurt.

I use Amsoil which includes friction modifiers and it runs like a champ.

Check the manual. If you didn't get a hard copy you can access on the Ram Brand Owners Web site (or pay for one). I noticed a change in oil weights starting in MY19, I think. Red Line has oil without a modifier, a little hard to find, and need to verify weight required unless you're going to run a heavier weight. MY16 use 75W-90 and Red Line is 75W90NS (sans modifier).

Guys - did I buy the correct Redline gear oil? Sepp's post above has me second-guessing myself...

THIS is what I bought...

Cool.

Was worried about not ordering the "NS / sans modifier" version.

It probably doesn't matter, but I have a bit of OCD. I go with what the manual specifies. These lockers use helical gears and don't need friction modifiers.
