I haven't bothered to look yet but I'm wanting to replace the factory bulbs in my dual headlights with something a bit brighter. Can you access the bulbs through the access panel in the fender well or do you have to remove the entire headlight assembly?

You have to reach into the access panels to release a clip that holds the headlights in. (after removing the bolts up front).

Not only do you have to remove the headlight, but also the entire front grill. I just did an HID upgrade in my truck, and it was the biggest pain in the a$$. An hour of work was spent just on disassembly and reassembly. Changing out the bulb took all of 4 seconds.

They also don't even make the grill removal easy either. Impossible to get to the clips to release it, and you have to pull the clips on the radiator shroud to get to the bolts to remove the grill.

I read somewhere on here that you can remove the headlights without removing the grill if you have a long U-Joint extension to reach the bolts.

Yes, you did. You'll also need to put some duct tape or something in the socket to retain the bolt as you remove/install it. Magnetic sockets are also nice.

You don't need a u-joint extension to do the job. I've pulled my headlights on my 2010 countless times with just 2 straight extensions and a deep socket that add up for a total length of about 14".

Oh and like JohnD72 said...tape is your best friend. I learned the hard way the first time but I used painters tape on the socket to hold onto the bolt for both removal and installation and I also taped the socket to the extension because I have had the socket stay with the bolt because of the tape holding the bolt to the socket.

I've gotten to where I can pull grill and ready to pull headlights in just minutes, it's not bad.
